What's your favourite sketch?

OP posts:
allthelittleangelsriseupriseup · 27/03/2024 03:02

Life of Brian
Spanish Inquisition
Meaning of Life (Every Sperm is Sacred)
Philosophers Song
Bruce
Dead Parrot Sketch (which I often quote when something goes wrong).

AustraliaTrip · 27/03/2024 03:10

I used to teach Critical Thinking As as was (week 20 years ago!!!) and I used to use the argument sketch to introduce the concept of an argument. It was fab. I guess it would seem v outdated now.

I've not watched any monty python for probably around that long!! This makes me want to watch life of Brian again.

People's front of judea...
That's not the messiah he's a very naughty boy...
What did the Romans do for us.

All brilliant.

sashh · 27/03/2024 04:21

Every sperm is sacred.

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy.

Oblomov24 · 27/03/2024 05:03

Loretta
Naughty boy
Romans ever do for us.

HarryBlackberry1 · 27/03/2024 05:52

Fish slapping dance.

That's such a brilliant film, I still use so many catch phrases from it. Not that most people get them, I just end up looking like a weirdo!

Get that Deidre, when she drops a baby while doing the washing up,
Wafer thin, at the restaurant.

Duckinglunacy · 27/03/2024 06:09

I think my all time favourite might be Dennis the repressed peasant from the Holy Grail and his anarchy syndicalist commune.

“now we see the violence inherent in the system, help help I’m being repressed’

I also really like Hell’s Grannies, and how to defend yourself against someone armed with fresh fruit ‘what about a pointy stick?’

and - fetches La vache!

really there are too many and on a work front my reasonably extensive Python knowledge is a route into the boys club.

Threewheeler1 · 27/03/2024 06:30

Globules · 26/03/2024 21:50

The entire Holy Grail.

I need to don Tena ladies before I watch.

Same! The pretend horse riding with coconut shells, fighting knights and the murderous bunnies 😂
I need to watch it now!
Life of Brian too.

Threewheeler1 · 27/03/2024 06:33

I'd forgotten the 'nobody expects the Spanish Inquisiton'!

PoulezVous · 27/03/2024 06:39

So many, but the argument clinic is definitely a favourite. If DH and I ever argue one of us will eventually come out with "I'm sorry is this a five minute argument or the full half hour?"

Fish slap dance
Cheese shop sketch
Dead parrot
Denis Moore
Eric the half a bee
People's Front of Judea
Release Roger
Every sperm is sacred

I second the PP who recommended Ripping Yarns - absolutely brilliant. Golden Gordon and Tomkinsons Schooldays are classics.

'You are all individuals'

'I'm not'

This is my absolute favourite line from the film!

The Batley Townswomen's Guild presents the Battle of Pearl Harbour

Confuse a cat

"It's spelt Luxury-Yacht but it's pronounced Throat-Wobbler-Mangrove"

"Biggles - fetch the cushions!"

NellyTimes · 27/03/2024 06:43

"I've fallen off my chair, Brian"

ClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 27/03/2024 06:44

All of these.

And Hell's Grannies and the vicious gang of "keep left" signs 😁

ClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 27/03/2024 06:46

Arthur "two sheds" Jackson.

A famous scientist, but is only ever asked about his having two sheds (and turns out he only ever thought of buying another one).

merrymelodies · 27/03/2024 07:07

Philosophers Song, Lumberjack Song, Mr Creosote, the Travel Agent one... I luffs them all Easter Grin

calimali · 27/03/2024 07:42

Biggus Dickus
Are there any women here?
Jehovah, Jehovah - oh he said it again
What is he - Capricorn. And that's the Messiah is it?
Half a denari for a poor ex leper

I love Life of Brian

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/03/2024 07:54

Ministry of Silly Walks

And classic lines: There's not much spam in that.
It's just a flesh wound.

I have to add: Don't mention the war! from Fawlty Towers. Brilliant!

BlackForestCake · 27/03/2024 08:20

Four Yorkshiremen isn't a Python sketch. Cleese and Chapman wrote it pre-Python with Marty Feldman and Tim Brooke-Taylor. It was first performed in 1967 on At Last the 1948 Show.

PuppyMonkey · 27/03/2024 08:33

I can’t quite remember which sketch it’s from but I use a Graham Chapman line all the time: “Shut your festering gob, you tit.” Grin

Tcateh · 27/03/2024 08:37

Wincarnis · 26/03/2024 23:05

Nudge Nudge
Buying a Bed (don’t say the M word)
Argument Clinic
Upper Class Twits
Ministry of Silly Walks
The Larch

Yes The Larch!!

When they're dressed up as schoolboys!!!

Also, there's a contact lenses sketch. It could be from the German series?

Oh and the one with the lion on the beach filmed in Torquay and Paignton.

'one day all of this will be yours' Michael Palin

'what, the curtains?' Terry J

From the meaning of life.

Oh and the Death scene. Grim reaper.
Oops found my people.

Anyone seen the documentary when they did the 12 nights live at the O2.

Michael Palin dressed as older lady recording the bit about c**t.

Hilarious 😆

I need to watch Holy Grail this weekend, it's only right.

And Life of Brian for Easter! Thanks for the inspo...

NeedWineNow · 27/03/2024 09:11

He is the Messiah, and I should know, I've followed a few 😁

Compash · 27/03/2024 09:15

The Grim Reaper - 'Hey - I didn't even eat the mousse!' Simon Jones (Arthur Dent) from the TV Hitchhikers is in it!

And pretty much all of Brian... masterpiece. 'Ooh, you lucky bastard!' Loretta of course, and 'splitters!' And the hermit in the hole who starts singing and dancing after Brian steps on him...

❤️

Compash · 27/03/2024 09:17

And Mr Cheeky in the line for crucifixion. 'Freedom for me. They said I hadn't done anything so I could go and live on an island somewhere.'
