Off to Lisbon next week for a few days and the forecast is awful.
We had lots of outdoor stuff planned, which we will still do but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for indoor activities for me and dp

@TheNewDeer - you seemed to be fixated on the adult element of the weekend. Apart from lots of sex (in the hotel or a club), copious amounts of vinho tinto what 'adult' things would you recommend?

essentially not doing anything that i’d do when going away with my children

So… oceanariums and escape rooms for example

what i would do…. walk everywhere. Museums, art galleries, shops, very late nights, very long lie ins, fabulous bars that come alive in Lisbon at 10pm. That sort of thing.

With young children… not a chance
with tweens… a chance but everything at pace ie no lingering at an art gallery and no shopping beyond zara or tacky gift shops or sweet shops

or are you now going to say that your 3 and 5 year old LOVE art galleries?! and slot in from night 1 to going to incredible restaurants at 9pm and then on to a bar for a cocktail. And then lie in until 11?

go on… you are aren’t you? 😆

No kids, but no art galleries for me! I only live 90 minutes from Lisbon so I tend to hit El Corte Ingles for some serious retail therapy then take in a couple of movies in their sumptuous cinema followed by drinks and dinner away from the tourists traps.

Edited to add. If I have a couple of spare hours it's always the oceanarium!

If you like music, try and visit a Fado venue and or the Fado museum.

Tile museum

Yep! Loved the tile museum! 😍

It chucked it down when we were there too. Definitely still do Sintra (although we were absolutely drenched!)

The carriage museum was a nice surprise, weirdly enjoyable and interesting. There’s also lots of nice churches and things.

Other that that lots of cafes eating pastel de natas and bifanos!

Don't bother with the MAAT near Belem. Load of rubbish. Stay on the train and get off at Estoril and walk to Cascais. Fans of World Strongest Man will recognise this is where Geoff Capes won in 1985.

Packing my raincoat and umbrella today.
Will definitely do the oceanarium and stadium.
I've just prepared myself to to very wet.
Thanks for all the suggestions

Edited

that’s an adult weekend you describe (unless the films you would watch whilst on your city break would be… pixar / disney child friendly films?) and the drinks and tapas wrap up in the early evening and have some child friendly options too?

beliefbelieve · 25/03/2024 06:05

oh and the hours of “retail therapy”?

everythinglooksbetterpaintedblack · 27/03/2024 18:07

Well the rain has been so torrential today that there is at least 3inch of water on the pavements and I've had to change hotel rooms due to a flooded floor. The window was faulty and it's rained in my room for hours ..
