Tips to stop losing my keys

How do I stop losing my keys? So far they've always turned up, but I feel like I spend so much of my time looking for them. I tried one of those Bluetooth tag things but then I kept forgetting to charge it and it ran out of battery 🤦‍♀️

Why I wear jeans or other trousers is because I have a pocket for keys. That go in them when I get dressed in the morning.

I also have key rings such that I know they are house keys.

One more thing I would say is I only carry around keys that I actually need.

The number of people I see carrying around massive bunches of keys many of which they hardly ever use is ridiculous. If you lose them it just becomes a pain to replace them all.

Carry the stuff you need, not the stuff you don't.

Ive brought one of those massive Pom poms. They're ugly but they work

I have a fluorescent lanyard which has my house and car keys on. I can't get far without one or the other, plus the long pink lanyard gives me a fighting chance of seeing them in whatever bag I have them in.

When. I come home, the keys go straight in the lock or looped over the handle if someone else is due in.

I also have multiple spares.

Now, if you can give me some tips on how to not lose my glasses that would be great....

I have an AirTag for the same reason. I've not had to charge it. It's great!

Decide on a place to put them.
Always put them there.
For the first month, say out loud to yourself, "I'm putting the keys on the hook/ in the bowl/ in the drawer."

I have to have all my keys together or my whole key system breaks down and I’m stood outside work at 6am on a Saturday without the keys to unlock the building 😐 not every time, but it’s happened more than once.

Thanks all! The Tile sounds promising, as does a carabiner. I've already pared it down to the minimum no. of keys.

Sadly it's not just in the house that I lose them, it's in pockets/bags/car etc

My keys live on the stairs, when I come in I chuck them there and that's where I find them.
If anyone has any tips for finding my glasses (usually on my head) or my phone (usually on silent) I'd be very grateful

Zippedydoodahday · 19/03/2024 19:12

Get a Tile. The batteries last at least a year. Mine had saved me many hours of my life. Absolutely brilliant.

That said, I have just seen tile does not allow you to replace the battery, which is silly. So I won't be getting one of those.

You can change the battery on the Tile Pro keyring.

I feel you. All this "just put them somewhere in the same place every time" is easy to say and harder to do. What about when I'm trying to wrestle three kids in and it's raining and I need the loo or I'm picking up mail. The bit of my brain that is meant to put the keys where I'm meant to put them in busy with kids and rain and mail and wee

Justanything86 · 19/03/2024 19:48

If you have more than one handbag op... don't 😂 you are asking to lose them. Try and put them straight back in the bag as soon as you're in. Car keys attached to house keys so you literally can't leave without them. I have a tile on my main set. I have a spare set with a big luminous tag. Neighbour also has a set. I don't wear certain clothes because I'm likely to shove things in the pockets. I don't put my main keys in pockets if I don't want a bag with me, only the spare. I constantly have to remind myself when I think I'll remember putting them somewhere 'no you won't you've got the memory of a sieve'.

Good luck op. Its a never ending battle and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking for them still more than I'd like. Found them this week under (?!) my sofa.

twohooverwannabe · 19/03/2024 19:49

I’ve changed the battery in my Tile once in several years. Get one.

woahhhh · 19/03/2024 19:49

Air tag

rainbowbee · 19/03/2024 20:11

My place has a hook over the door. You can't leave without the keys as the door won't open properly.
I come in, keys on hook. Every time. Bestie has spares for extreme emergency.

Mine are attached by a long line of knicker elastic to the zip slider of the inner zipped pocket of my handbag. I can pull them out to reach the lock from quite a distance . You may therefore infer many things about the size of the knickers the elastic came from. 🤔
