Favourite dog names?

What's your favourite name for a dog? I'm getting a puppy soon (a red toy poodle) and thinking of a name for him. My shortlist at the moment is Sunny, Jupiter, Magnus or Cosmo but am open to all suggestions. Thanks Smile

You have 2 dogs with the same name??!

You didn’t notice the comma, then the other name? 😬

On a quick mindless scroll through MN whilst also watching TV, no, I didn’t. I don’t think it needs to be pointed out twice!

Our dog is a blue roan so I looked up Blue in other languages and that became her name.

Apparently dogs respond better to their names if the name has two syllables. The other thing to consider is how the name sounds when you have to shout it at the park. There’s a dog called Artemis that goes to our park and the name raises a few chuckles.

I was mightily impressed by a huge Irish wolfhound called Mr Pemberton.

My next dog will be called BoboStClair (all one word) Bo for short.

My top two choices for baby boys have come up on this thread! Won't use the though because agreeing those were painful enough without using them on the dog Grin I'd also heard the two syllable thing too, so will probably stick to that rule.

Halliwell and Horner made we laugh. Would we also need to get an intolerant old dog called Marko for the full effect Grin

Halliwell makes me think of Kenneth Halliwell, who killed his lover, Joe Orton, with a hammer.

Euphonically it's still a nice name.

Ah we have a red toy poodle - such lovely dogs. Ours is a girl though. I wanted to call her Stevie (Wonder, Nicks) but was overruled. I like Cosmo, Rufus, Barney for boy dogs. Thought there is an excellent german shepherd called Brian at puppy training. Also a Hades (!) and a Dexter.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/03/2024 09:53

My dog is Skye. She was named by my nephews. Its not a name I'd have chosen but she's got her name written all over her.
I suppose it depends on the breed I've got 4 more imaginary dogs though.
A Dalmatian called Stripey. A sausage dog called banger.
A Labrador called shadow. A tea cup poodle called Noodle.😂
I also like human names for dogs, too. Wilbur. Cedric. Georgie. Louie. Toby.
Post a picture of him when you get him.

I have always though Colin was a good name for a dog, but recently came across one that was called Dave Growl which I think takes the crown.
