Dating - what's with the voicenotes?!

Am new to OLD. For context am early 40s, a woman dating other women, just looking for casual.

Am chatting to quite a few people on WhatsApp and am quite surprised at how many are sending me voicenotes. Is this a thing now?

I can't do them back. Have an irrational dislike of my recorded voice that goes back to childhood so the convos are a bit odd with them sending vns (not exclusively) and me texting back 🤣

Anyone else experienced this? Is this the normal?

Argh! Hate them, I'm late 30s and recently dipped my toe into the OLD world and the voice notes make me cringe!! I never return them either!

Everytime I give a guy a vn, they always respond. I think it makes one more alive and kicking

I mean I'm absolutely fine to talk to someone on the actual phone. Not a problem. Enjoy it. But speaking into my phone and sending it and it remaining on someone's phone for posterity?
