This conversation was bought up last night over a dinner with friends and everyone had wildly different answers that it really surprised me. What surprised me was a lot of what they were describing as really interesting, I thought was quite boring!

For me it's a really good storyteller who tells interesting stories about their life.

For others it was what they have done. So are interested if they have travelled to every country or have a really cool job in the circus.

For a lot of my friends it was someone with a specific personality trait like passion, enthusiasm, intelligence or humour.

I am super interested to know what makes people interesting to you.

Anybody who thinks about the world , people who are interested in others and want to make the world a better place.
people who talk endlessly about how much money they have/ what their home is worths are really boring - even if they have travelled everywhere and work as a cameraman for National Geographic!

@LunaTheCat I have a friend who talks endlessly about the celebrities she has met, and everyone else seems really interested

People that are continuously learning and educating themselves so that they have a wealth of topics to chat about and discuss and can offer obscure facts when any subject matter is raised.

I’ll tell you the text book answer. We ( humans) are interested in people who are interested in us.

basically, if you want to be interesting- be interested in others.

no one wants to hear someone bore on about their gap year

Anyone who's interested in the world around them.

Yes to this. So many people have no interest in anything that doesn't touch them directly.

I agree with this^
I like when people are not focused on themselves and/or just one thing (e.g their hobby or their political views) but rather interested in other people and what’s going on around. I like people to be polite and friendly. Empathy and understanding are also very important skills imo.

Im actually not sure about people who are telling too much stories.
A lot of people have many interesting sides even without many stories, you just need to notice them. The conversation might start as a small talk about the weather and end up with talking about something interesting. I think you never know which knowledge might come useful so it’s better to keep your options open.

I wonder if at least some of listeners are just polite? However I’m not interested in celebrities but don’t mind relaxing summary of what’s going on in their world once in a while over a cup of coffee if I don’t have any pressing issues to discuss.

I know a woman who leads an incredibly interesting life and gets up to all sorts of amazing stuff. Strangely she manages to send people to sleep when she talks about it. I don’t know how she acquired this skill.

I find affinity with people who are slightly at odds with the world (not in a negative way) and possibly a bit neurodiverse

People who engage in two way conversation. Not a lot do. Lived in different places had different careers maybe. Those who have lived abroad.
