Imaginary conversations

Talking to a friend, I've started to wonder what is 'normal' or not so usual.

We all imagine things, but I'm guessing it's all very different in our heads 😁

I'm wondering how common it is for people to:

  1. have imaginary meetings/bump into/conversations with famous people

  2. have an imaginary friend (as an adult)

  3. go through every word of a conversation (basically play back the conversation) in your head; maybe alter your responses (or what you should have said).

The above are just examples of things people have mentioned; wondering if some might seem a little odd to some and completely normal to others.

Sit in traffic and watch solitary people as they mooch up the road. Lips moving and deep in conversation.
Glad I'm not alone 😂

I've only really done 3) but don't really any more. I've learned to relax and chill particularly on things that I cannot change but were causing me frustration. If I was angry or upset I'd often re-churn conversations over and over particularly lying in bed at night. Now I leave them be and listen to podcasts to get to sleep.

I do however write stories in my head. I've had one going for about 10 years. It's a script for a thriller or a novel. All I have to do is pop it on paper and it will be an award winning TV drama.

@KeyboardMash
Daily! I also have conversations in advance of having them in real life so I'm prepared. It's really annoying when those conversations actually happen and the person I'm talking to doesn't stick to their lines!
This ! it is so annoying when they wrong foot you by giving a reply /solution you did not expect , how dare they not be able to read our minds 😁

I get into imaginary arguments , I work with a couple of know alls that actually know sod all most of the time so in my head I will be trying to explain something to them and they will flat out denie it or say I am wrong .
I only tend to do this when my mind is wandering so I listen to books / podcast / music to stop my mind wandering off.
( I have tried putting it on a lead but that doesn't seem to work 😁)

I play out entire fantasies in my mind - normally of potential future disasters, or fall outs I could have with people, how the conversations would go etc...

It's strange because I'm very peaceful and never fall out with people. But in my mind, it's like I'm always rehearsing the possibility.

It's worst when I'm out walking. I almost always imagine a car ploughing into me, or some big crash in front of me, or a daylight mugging.... if I'm on a plane, it might be terrorists taking over and me trying to negotiate to get them to swap me in as a hostage instead of a child..... all kinds of crazy, movie stuff.

Reminds me of the times I drive past houses in the evenings, see the light on and I've created a whole world 😁

Yep I live movies in my head too 😁 but sometimes I wonder if it's a bit much 🤣

I occasionally conjur an imaginary therapist (as I can’t afford a real one). Or else to a close friend whom I would never burden in real life. I don’t get any support of course in these one way conversations, except imaginary comprehension. But sometimes I clarify my own thoughts.

Occasionally, to make something more interesting eg cooking, I might pretend for a minute or two I’m doing a tv programme! But that’s also very rare.

I'm on master chef a lot of the time and Marcus Wearing and Greg Wallace think I'm the best thing since sliced bread.
Also when ironing, a lot of the time I'm doing this chore for a celebrity couple as I am their live in help 🤣
