Tesco = Have you noted this trick about eggs??

Call me cynical, but for the last few months, you are hard pushed to by a pack of 12 eggs online of any size.

All you have is 6 egg boxes which cost a lot more if you want 12, etc.

We shop online Tesco's but also go out to Icelands/Morrisons and Aldi's and they appear to have boxes of 12 galore, free range/etc/etc. Though there is no large Tesco near us, is this an online thing only and have you experienced this?

So, what do you guys think is the reason behind six packs only-ish?

Is it profiteering or market forces, IE not selling enough to warrant selling them?

The egg area in my tesco has got smaller. The bit for 12 packs is tiny so maybe they just don't order a lot of them as there's no room to put them out

I noticed! I only buy free range but sadly havent seen 12 box free range eggs for ages in tesco, Im not even sure whether they have them any more. I buy eggs often so I had to swtich to ASDA, they usually have 12 in a box, sometimes 15 box of mixed sizes. Its really sad lots of items not only have gone up in price but gone done in size, which means more packaging and more waste.

There's only packs of 6 jn my Tescos. Also, I'm not sure if it's just my perception but the eggs seem to be getting smaller and smaller.

I usually buy medium size but they look tiny now. There's a box of mixed sizes suddenly available at a lower price. Mixed size appears to he mainly very tiny with 1 or 2 just tiny.

Where have all the larger eggs gone?

A bit off topic but large eggs should be avoided in any case, they are really appalling for the poor girls that lay them.

You realise free range eggs bought in a supermarket just means there’s no cages inside the barn right?

Buy from independents or better still get a few chickens.

Also this, although getting chickens is not a small undertaking so maybe trying to go local would be better.

The colour is just down to the breed of hen but Tesco are now ripping people off selling in 10s instead of 12 or 15. Tesco are just thieves.

dementedpixie · 09/02/2024 14:11

I got 12 in morrisons instead

VeryHungrySeaCucumber · 09/02/2024 15:42

No problem getting 12 medium or large or 15 mixed (not generally too small) at Ocado.

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/02/2024 15:48

I bought a pack of 12 in Lidl today. Sainsbury's usually have 12s and 15s.

DuchessSuperFantastic · 13/02/2024 19:09

As I said, we shop online - but them but some at another supermarket, ofte Morrisons etc - Tesco is trying it on IMO
