It was brief @FarrahformerlySwtPea - I just said "hello" and shook his hand as about a zillion other people wanted to do the same (obviously)! He seemed to be a very warm and friendly man and he gave an amazing speech at my graduation ceremony.

And some types of university degree are named after him. Those who graduate with a lower second class degree (or 2.2 for short) are referred to - lightheartedly - as having attained a "Desmond"!
