Canada itinerary with preschool aged DC

We have 1 DC who will be almost 4, and planning to travel to Canada in May. Keen to do a long-ish haul adventurous holiday whilst we can still avoid school holidays.

We would love to fly to Vancouver and stay there a few days and also visit some other places, see some wildlife etc.

I've looked at some expensive companies who build itineraries for families and it seems do-able - some even go as far as Toronto towards the end of the trip, although that might be biting off more than we can chew.

But I'd be very interested to hear first hand if anyone's been to Canada with little ones, and if you have an itinerary we could copy / take ideas from?

We have 14 days or thereabouts, a bit of flexibility.

@Fluffyhoglets oh gosh yes! There seems to be so much to do in Vancouver that we would definitely need a good few days at least.

@offthestickerchart I don't honestly know as we didn't price it up individually, we were always going to book through an agent for something as expensive and long-haul as this in case anything went wrong. You can just go in (or phone) and get them to price it up for you with no obligation though, so nothing to lose by asking them to price it and doing your own comparison. They'll also do the legwork with itinerary. I will say we're doing the Rocky Mountaineer, and I assume they get some sort of special price on it as what we're paying for international flights, transfers, car hire, the RM, and accommodation for 14 nights is only roughly double what the RM would cost alone.

Thank you so much @Vetoncall ! Can I ask you how many days you would recommend staying in each location if we assume a 14 day trip? We will no doubt need a day or so to recover from jet lag - very worried about that with our 3yo. So anticipate starting in Vancouver.

Just saw this, sorry. Personally with 14 days I would start in Vancouver, say days 1-3, then spend at least 5 days on Vancouver Island - ferry to Victoria, at least 1 full day there, drive to Ucluelet and/or Tofino (300ish km), couple of days there, drive back to Victoria or you could go on up to Port Hardy and then around to Nanaimo for the return ferry. I'd head up to Whistler from VI on day 8/9, then back to Vancouver so you have a final day or two to chill out and explore before heading home, or on to Seattle.

Hi @Fluffyhoglets
Can I ask how your holiday went? Thinking of a similar trip to what you've planned with our just turned 4 year old daughter for this August - Thanks
