Hello, can I have old films recommendations please? Like Grace Kelly, Katherine Hepburn, Marlon Brandon etc..?
And where to watch them? I'm trying to find some in Netflix but I can't find any..

Thank you very much

Other similarly amazing old films:

Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf (Liz Taylor and Richard Burton)

Streetcar named Desire (my absolutely favourite Marlon Brando role besides Godfather of course)

Gone with the Wind (Vivienne Leigh - best acting by any female ever

12 Angry Men (watched it in school as a kif and LOVED IT)

Lots of great recommendations here, it’s inspiring me to look for some of these (again)

The 39 Steps
The third man
Calamity Jane

You can use IMDb.com to search for actors or directors you like and then google something like „where to watch [film name] uk“.

Prime, iPlayer etc have a few. Or check out the BFI, or mubi.com, or curzon cinemas for their streaming services (at a cost, but you can find a much greater variety and good quality copies - some of the free stuff on YouTube can be variable)

I love to watch a Doris Day film especially on a lazy Sunday afternoon! I can recommend all of her films and her leading men were so…..dashing!

One of favourite films ever is ‘Gone With the Wind’.
Vivien Leigh is Scarlett O’Hara.

If you like the old vampire films try anything with Christopher Lee... if nothing else, the music scores with the acting are ace! They really don't make them like that anymore.

Film4 has lots of films and it's on Freeview. In London we have a Freeview channel called London Live which also shows lots of old films. Don't know if this channel is available outside London in spite of the name.

I recommend The Maltese Falcon. Just about anything with Humphrey Bogart, actually. Ditto Cary Grant and Bette Davis.

XelaM · 14/12/2023 06:52

Vertigo is also brilliant!!

Some great recommendations here.

I love pretty much any Hitchcock.

Rosemary's Baby is a fab watch (currently on More 4, I think).

Les Diaboliques is a very spooky French psychological thriller, with an excellent twist.

Needhelp101 · 14/12/2023 10:06

The Innocents is another great psychological thriller (an adaptation of The Turn of the Screw).
