My dh suffered a traumatic brain injury in am accident two weeks ago and is still in critical care unconcious. He is making some responses to pain and is taking breathes on his own. Does anyone have an experience in this? I am completely distraught.

Weaning took a period of about a week after gradually reduced O2 and pressure support levels. After a spell of minimal ventilation he was put back on overnight and support reduced each time. Communication about the process was poor, one day I would ring and no change then a day or two later he was less support during day and cpap at night and more awake. The ventilator had different functions so they could adjust it as and when.

I'm so sorry OP. I've been through this too, with a relative. It was a living nightmare. Try and get as much rest as you can, delegate where possible. Sending love and prayers.

So, so sorry this is happening to you and your family OP. You should be having regular discussions with the ICU consultant. If you write down your questions they should be able to answer them for you. I wish all the best for your DH.
