I just read this.

I always found him interesting. I think it probably because I'm a white woman that grew up in a white area I needed to hear about the experiences of others whose lives were different from mine.

I heard him read out one of his poems on the radio once. It was fabulous and his voice was amazing. It was years ago but stayed with me.

I'm not into poetry at all but I'm sad to hear this.

cardibach · 07/12/2023 10:53

Where have you read this? I can’t find it online.
It’s very sad if so.
edit: found it on X

Bernardmanning · 07/12/2023 10:55

Oh no. How sad!

KitchenAngst · 07/12/2023 10:55

I've not seen this anywhere -- what is your source for this?

keye · 07/12/2023 10:56

It's been posted on twitter from instagram. I didn't follow him so I don't know if it's his genuine insta account.

KatBurglar · 07/12/2023 10:58

Where did you hear this? It’s not on the BBC or Guardian yet

Glitterbiscuits · 07/12/2023 11:02

It's on his own Facebook page.

Oh gosh how awful. An amazing poet and man in general.

KatBurglar · 07/12/2023 11:23

What a loss. He was amazing.

gotomomo · 07/12/2023 11:24

Love his poetry, seen him perform it several times. But it's not on any news media- suspect they are checking accuracy

Bobblesock · 07/12/2023 11:25

The most beautiful voice and wonderful poetry. What a loss, so very sad.

Seeline · 07/12/2023 11:26

Most of the newspapers have it on their websites

steppemum · 07/12/2023 11:26

Oh no.
He was amazing. That has made me very sad

dreamingdays · 07/12/2023 11:27

RIP. Awful and so sad to hear this.

RudsyFarmer · 07/12/2023 11:28

Was he the poet laureate around ten years ago? I can remember finding his story very interesting. From what I can see he was diagnosed with a brain tumour recently.

Partnersuntheuk · 07/12/2023 11:28

Yes, on all the digital paper pages, sad.

MrsKwazi · 07/12/2023 11:31

No way!!! I just listened to him on poetry please last week. This is really sad news I am shocked, what a loss :(

spiderlight · 07/12/2023 11:31

Such a loss :(

MelsMoneyTree · 07/12/2023 11:34

That's so sad. Eight weeks is no time at all from diagnosis to death. It's such a loss. He was extremely talented. RIP.

SerpentEndBench · 07/12/2023 11:39

Dreadful news, so sorry for his family.

ClemmyTine · 07/12/2023 11:41

I'm sad about this.

NuNameNuMe · 07/12/2023 11:41

Really sad to hear this. His books were the only thing my uninterested in reading teenage son WOULD read. Thank you Benjamin Zephaniah for keeping that slight flame alive a while longer in my kid.

Whyarewehere · 07/12/2023 11:42

Incredibly sad news 😢
