Starlings been nesting in loft, can I use items stored there?

I know that starlings are protected and so we’ve been guided by the experts as to how we evict them but I’m wondering if we can use items stored in the loft which might now have bird poo on? Apparently starling poo can contain harmful bacteria which becomes hazardous if it has dried and then broken. We’ve got Christmas lights and decorations, baby clothes, photos, special mementos etc. Does anyone know if I will need to throw everything away if it’s all covered in poop? The pest control man said that it will be safe as long as we’ve sprayed the surfaces with antibacterial spray first so the poop gets damp and can then be wiped away. Starling poo can cause serious health problems especially for people with weakened immune systems and there’s 3 of us with this in the family so I’m even more worried. Has anyone had experience of similar? Thanks.

Our loft starlings have never poo'd on anything and they've been up there 5 or so years.

Really? So I’m assuming that they are permanent guests then? We’ve looked in the loft and they’ve definitely left poo in places. It’s not from mice or other vermin.

Yes, permanent. We love them!
