MOT failed help please!!

I had my car in for MOT and it failed. (Arnold Clark). One of the problems, they can’t get the parts until the 19th December.
I want to take it away to another garage for repairs to get it done sooner. I know I have 10 days to take it back to Arnold Clark and get it retested, however looking online they don’t seem to have any appointments until the 20th.

My question is do they HAVE to fit me in within that 10 days as it will only be a partial retest? Or am I going to need to look elsewhere for a retest?
Thank you

Some very conflicting advice here!
The government website, as someone has pointed out, does say I can take it away provided there’s no dangerous faults.

And that’s the correct answer. Even if you have a dangerous fault you can repair it and continue to drive it until the MOT expiry. For example if you failed on a tyre, you could put the spare on and continue to use it.

So I’m fine to drive it all day 30/11?
It failed on the exhaust centre pipe being split, and the wheel arch is broken with scrubbing tyre on full lock (???)
I’m really pissed off that Arnold Clark can’t get the part until the 18th. I’ve phoned round a good few other garages who can do it next week, the repairs and MOT so just want to know I’m fine to drive it there then. Really hacked off and stressed as I rely on my car so much.

A proper exhaust place may be able to repair the exhaust for you, depending on the actual damage. I've used these a couple of times and they're always great if you're anywhere near!

A bodyshop might be able to sort the wheel arch too.

I'm cringing at how certain some posters are on here, that you definitely cannot drive your car if you take it in for an MOT (early) and it failed. 😬 As several posters have said, as long as the MOT is still in date you can still drive your car. Only if it's deemed as very dangerous should you not drive it.

What a nuisance that so many places are struggling to get parts! I generally try to book our MOT really early - as soon as I possibly can. Say, if it's due 31st May, I can present it as early as 1st May. (You can present it for MOT up to 30 days before it's due... And they will 'forward date' it.) As my garage has a 2-3 week wait for a slot, we book it in like 10th April. Virtually 2 months before it's up!

Something to think about for the future @lovelyjubbly888 Smile

All the best, I hope you get it sorted.
