Hot Ribena

Feeling rotten with a full on snotty cold so have decided to stay in bed, with a mug of hot ribena and MN to keep me company.

What is your comfort food or drink when you’re not feeling well?

I haven't had Ribena since I was a kid, my mam kept a bottle in the cupboard for when we were ill. I don't remember having it hot, it's a shame that they've changed the recipe. I sometimes buy the cartons for my daughter, her favourite is the strawberry one.

My grandpa used to make me hot ribena in the 70's/80's, can remember going to a cafe with my mum and sister and having hot ribena in a fancy glass mug. It was luscious back then pure thick blackcurrant now it's more like squash.

Have you tried the new Winter Spice Ribena - really nice in my view despite sweetners and I cant drink sweetener Ribena normally and esp not hot as its grim. Formulated to be hot so not sure if that makes a difference. I can mostly taste cinnamon but ermm got a cold rofl

Hot ribenna has been my stable this week. Along with toast and chicken soup.

Hot lemon squash with a teaspoon of honey in it. Either Heinz tomato soup with grated cheese on top and toasty soldiers to dip in or homemade spicy parsnip soup.

I used to love hot Ribena. The new recipe makes me nauseous though. Too much artificial sweetener. Not enough blackcurrant

I had a horrid cold last week and bought some Ribena Winter Spice which is designed to be drunk hot. So comforting. I can also recommend Belvoir Ginger Cordial. Lovely kick to it and great if you have a sore throat. Get well.

Hot ribera with a disprin was my go to for any flu or cold. It seemed to work like magic at the 1st sign of flu. Nowadays I add it to those blackcurrant drinks to make them nicer to drink.
Comfort food is tomato soup. My dm used to give me mashed potatoes with lots of butter mixed with garden peas. Nice if it's made for you but when feeling unwell too much bother so soup it is

I can thoroughly recommend Pimm's no. 3 made with warm apple juice.

A mug of hot lemonade, a generous measure of whiskey, a few cloves and a wedge of lemon. I’m sipping one now before I go to bed 🥃

Lots of other options to try, I’m liking the ones with throw in a measure of rum/whiskey for medicinal purposes 😂

I’m intrigued by the hot lemonade though, would that be your regular fizzy stuff heated up?

Yes, big standard lemonade shoved in the microwave. It stays fizzy and is bliss on a sore throat.

Rock's do a blackcurrant cordial that has no artificial sweeteners in. I can't vouch for it being the same as ribena because I was a hot vimto kid (unfortunately that has also been ruined since the sugar tax😩).

I’ve literally just finished a hot Ribena, even with the sugar tax change it’s the stuff of gods.

@CharliesAngles have you tried the winter spice ribensa?

I love hot ribena I don’t think it tastes any different from years ago - I have a couple of mugs a day in winter
