How crap is Boots Advantage Card?

The ridiculous rule where you have to have enough points for a whole item!
I have £10 worth of points, but got no discount off my £40 bill.Angry

I really like my Boots card. We have a massive store near us and I do use it at least once a fortnight; I also like the app and the personalised offers so my points rack up Ok over a year. I've got £79 left on mine right now but I have used points to buy Chanel hand cream and mascara this year so that's probably taken about £85 points off what I would have had. I really dislike Superdrug so I'm pleased my local Boots is as good as it is.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/11/2023 21:01

I think it’s one of the better cards. This year I’ve had two Urban Decay eyeliners and some Ghost perfume with my points.

greengreengrass25 · 08/11/2023 21:02

I use mine with scan to recycle a lot and it's great for treating myself

I hate that you have to pre select and load the offers on to the card. Just give me the deal if I meet the requirements.

HighywayToHell · 08/11/2023 21:06

I refuse to use Boots now after they wiped my £30 in points off my advantage card, no email, no warning, nothing. Bastards.

Legselevens · 08/11/2023 21:06

On a scale of crap ness, it’s up there

Happygirl79 · 08/11/2023 21:11

My last experience in shopping at Boots was really off putting. You are right it's ridiculous that you can't use the point you've accrued against your next purchase but being 'served' by someone who won't make eye contact and who scans your purchase 3 x so overcharges you is worse. Luckily I noticed it on the receipt when my friend and I stopped off for a coffee. I went back and complained. No apology.
Disgraceful behaviour.
Puts me off using that store again

Bluevelvetsofa · 08/11/2023 21:19

I think Boots will go the way of Wilco and others eventually. The website is rubbish, online ordering is too and customer service is non existent. The small branches are very run down and trying to book a flu jab etc online is a joke.

MrsQTip · 08/11/2023 21:20

Just adding if you are over 60 you get double points.you have to register that online account.

LondonQueen · 08/11/2023 21:21

If you have the app it's great, in store not so much. It's very easy to accumulate points, I have over £100 worth which will probably cover my next top up of suncream, toothpaste etc before I go on holiday.

HollyJollyRobin · 08/11/2023 21:23

I still love Boots!! Manage to build up points quickly and always find they have good offers! The website however, is rubbish!!!!

anonperson2 · 08/11/2023 21:25

Boots has one of the best loyalty schemes out there. Granted, it's not as good now you only get 3 points per £ (as opposed to 4), but it is still very generous as they often have points events such as £10 of points for every £60 spent. If you have the app you can also get lots of extra offers too, so the points quickly mount up.

It is a pain you can't put your points balance towards something, but all loyalty schemes have a catch. Nectar can only be spent when you have accrued £2.50 for example.

Don't even get me going on vaccines ...

And they don't ever answer the phone at my local one. Ever. It's ringing out to a shed in the carpark or something.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/11/2023 21:30

Sparks is the most infuriating card .

I did gave a 20% off coats and bought a waterproof but in the last 3 months I;ve bought loads ..... and my "treat" is a loaf of bread.
I have a breadmaker , I don;t buy bread and certainly not from M&S !

LOVE the advantage card! The trick is to use it online/the app.
I wait until things are 3 for 2 or on offer then get the tenners extra points when spending £60, plus load all the personalised offers in the app. Boots is one of the only places that lets you code stack so my recent order that should have been almost £200 was half price, plus £15 back in points. Student discount also works on top of this and if you are part of the parenting club there are freebies plus a monthly discount code on baby items.
I Usually have at least a couple hundred pounds worth of points each Xmas which really helps for gifts.

Use Quidco or a site like that for cashback too where possible!

Me too! I currently have £380 in points 😳 I think I'm going to use it to do some of the Xmas shopping this year.

hartof · 08/11/2023 21:35

I love it. I use their recycling scheme so get an extra £5 of points every month on top of the ones I earn on buying things. I've probably had over £100 of points this year.

TryAgainWithFeeling · 08/11/2023 21:35

I quite like it, if you’re willing to faff and stack their codes you can get lots of extra points. Also I’ve bought some big baby items from them online, stuff like a car seat they actually had the best price, then can get points on top of that.

Fizbosshoes · 08/11/2023 21:36

I often use the boots near work out of convenience but I try to get a lot of stuff in savers when I go to a nearby town.

My main complaint (although not specifically to do with boots) is that the cashiers have absolutely no idea about cash - presumably because hardly anyone uses it. But they literally look bewildered as if I have handed them a selection of magic beans, 3 buttons and a carrot by way of payment. One time they looked so confused I said I've given you £x and you need to give me y in change!

Yes I forgot this. The other day there was 10% cash back on quidco and it didn't affect any of the codes or the advantage card points collected

Allfourwalls · 08/11/2023 21:38

The website and app is absolutely terrible.
They have good deals on but the last two times the promotion hasn't gone through at the till and I've not realised. So frustrating.
Also, at my boots store they never have any staff on the tills.

What do you need eye contact for?

Screamingabdabz · 08/11/2023 21:41

Just spend the £10 on shampoo or face cream or whatever? You haven’t lost it, you’ve just got to buy something of £10 or less. It’s not hard.

That said it’s only a matter of time before Boots goes down. There is no investment, no innovation and shit customer service. Erasing women is just the nail in the coffin.

Sommerled · 08/11/2023 21:42

Remember they used to have machines in store where you put your card in and got printed off personalized vouchers?

I barely shop in Boots now, the shelves always seem empty and I didn't even know about the recycling offer.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/11/2023 21:42

HelloMist · 08/11/2023 20:22

My points expired! Admittedly that only happens if you haven't shopped with them in a year, I think. I got a warning but didn't manage to use it before they did.

Ah, that explains it - went online and was 100% certain I had at least a tenner in points only to find it said zero. I haven’t used them for at least a year and probably more but tbh I can pretty much always get what I want cheaper elsewhere anyway so wasn’t too bothered. If I could have used the tenner I’d accrued I would have bought from them though so seems a bit shortsighted

fetchacloth · 08/11/2023 21:42

Floundering66 · 08/11/2023 20:06

They give more points per £ than most retailers but you can't use them for part payment. I've always found it pretty good and the points build up quickly.

Yes I've found the same.
