Putting house up for sale

We are planning to move house around June/July next year. We want to sell and buy. When would be the best time to put our house on the market and also start looking with a view to moving around that time?

It will be our first time in a chain so would love to hear your experiences!

We put ours on the market in August and got nowhere. Resisted with a different agent in November, sold beginning of December and moved at the end of March.

These days, who knows? Too many variables and depend a lot on the market from now on, which is still dropping. I don’t think you can plan to move in a time frame and do it successfully in this economic climate.

If it’s a family home in a good school catchment then many people looking to move will be trying to tie it in with school application deadlines. Being childfree I’ve no idea when in the year those are, I just gather they mean a lot to people with DC!

With the market as it is, unless you price competitively and / or are in a desirable area where houses don’t come up for sale very often - how long is a piece of string? If you allow an agent to talk you into too high a valuation, you could be on the market for months.

@ComtesseDeSpair that's true. Summer holidays are July and August so that would probably work well
