What are you all planning to do with your gift of an extra hour?!

Are you a fan of the twice yearly clock changes or should we do away with them altogether?

Thanks for the reminder. I'm just back from abroad and completely forgot

ssd · 28/10/2023 11:37

Ah thanks op!

Another bloody clock change....twice a year. Waste of time, fucking hate it. Why the hell we can't just stay where we should be all year round (ie. GMT) and stop messing about with it....

Iceland doesn't bother changing the clocks and everyone survives. For those saying "Oh, it'll be so dark in Scotland in the mornings" let me tell you, you'll survive just like you do on dark evenings instead. And countries like Iceland are far further north than Scotland so it's darker far, far later, but they all manage, even their schoolchildren.

I'm all for leading a campaign to stop all this clock changing but I suppose I wouldn't get much support, sadly.....

There will be no extra hour for me, the dog will still want to go to bed and get up at the usual time !

Same 👍

If we stayed on GMT (which I'd support) we would have lighter mornings all year.

Delatron · 28/10/2023 18:37

I don’t like anything that messes with the body clock (I sleep badly enough as it is) and I don’t like it being dark at 5. Feels claustrophobic.

I know we have less light though at this time of year. I just wish they’d stop messing around with the clocks.

Don't the clock changes increase heart attacks? Not a fan of it, trying to change my toddler's sleep routine is a pain.

Thats in the spring, dark mornings and an hour's less sleep. It's RTAs that go up in the autumn especially yr7 children making their way home from school in the twilight.

I’d support you, as would RoSPA. BST all the way!

I'd rather have daylight hours than just survive.

I'm on nights tonight. 😫

Commiserations!

One time following a colleague's advice, I put my watch back at midnight instead of 02.00 - she swore it made the the night seem not so bad. Big mistake it just added two extra hours to the misery and resentment Grin

Also played havoc with my fluid balance charts!

Toddlerteaplease · 28/10/2023 18:58

@Westfacing we once decided to do it at 4am. It was the most depressing thing ever.

Westfacing · 28/10/2023 19:02

04.00 is the worst time in the whole world to do anything!

I hope your night goes well - take a few treats to ease the pain Smile

NowNumber5 · 29/10/2023 03:13

Well ironically I’m awake at stupid o’clock 😂
At least I can console myself that I’ll get an extra hour to catch up on sleep later.

I’ve just read this article in The Independent and interestingly, although a lot of us moan about the changes, the results show that a slight majority would prefer to stick to them…

“A <a class="break-all" href="http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=44681X1458326&url=https%3A%2F%2Fyougov.co.uk%2Ftopics%2Fsociety%2Farticles-reports%2F2019%2F03%2F29%2Fbritons-divided-ending-daylight-saving-time&sref=www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/when-do-clocks-go-back-2023-uk-b2436981.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">2019 YouGov poll found that the majority of Brits were marginally in favour of keeping DST, however, with 44 per cent electing to keep the current system, while 39 per cent voted in favour of ditching the change.”

Most would prefer to stay on permanent summer time if we stopped changing the clocks

Well that link turned out to be a bit of a mess! This is why you shouldn’t post on MN at silly hours 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yep, I was up at 3am (4am) today

Fuck this shit, so tired. And I'm working from 12-7pm !

vodkaredbullgirl · 29/10/2023 06:03

It's been a long night and still got 2 hours to work.

Westfacing · 29/10/2023 07:05

Hang on in there girls - you're nearly there!

Have a big breakfast when you get home Smile

BurbleBumleBleep · 29/10/2023 07:18

Not a fan of either change in this day and age. The darks nights are brutal as someone said. You just get used to days getting long again and the clocks go forward so back to darker mornings for nothing noticeable in the evening.
I’d like BST all year round I think.
I’ve just wasted my extra hour on her so a bit cross. Was hoping for sleep.

PurplePositivity · 29/10/2023 07:21

I passionately hate dark evenings, lights hurt my eyes and I get very grumpy. I've a 5 year plan then I'm going part time so no more commuting in the dark 🤞

I wish they'd just leave the clocks alone. I've dug out my vitamin D pills.
