What were your favourite toys as a child?

I was born in 79 and my two favourite toys of all time were this random sink (with working taps) and the Big Yellow Teapot - when I look at the little characters I can still taste the way they felt in my mouth 😁

I think the sink was a huge novelty as I was only allowed to play with it outside, in the summer.

I had a woody the woodpecker with a soft body and a (rock hard) beak. I can’t find an image of it. 1980s. I loved it (and still have it somewhere). Also a pull along wooden sausage dog that squeaked as you pulled - thinking back I must have driven my parents mad with it!

we lived in a remote isolated community (not UK) and my moms friend gifted me some felt tip pens and they were my prized possession. She also gave me art classes and I am grateful for that - it was an incredibly kind thing to do as I don’t think my parents would have been able to afford to pay her.

I had that teapot and loved it but my favourite was the Big Red Fun Bus. Also loved my baby dolls. And I had an Oh Penny house with figures I got from the car boot sale that I absolutely loved

I had a Christmas Care Bear with a string I could pull to make it sing to me. It would definitely be considered a strangulation hazard now, but I survived to tell the tale. I called it Christmas Bear and it was loved to tatters.

The battered old toy farm at my Grandma's house is still in use for child visitors. My DC and their cousins of varying degrees play with it as happily as I did.

I had one babydoll I loved so much - my grandma gave it to me. I played with it every day.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 27/10/2023 12:31

This pop up tree house. Loved it so much and wish I'd kept it. Randomly we do have the dog from it somewhere in the house.

Was also massively into original My Little Ponies (born in 77) and remember buying sets with birthday money in the local toy shop.

Lego and Sindy and my many teddies

I loved for a while my Tiny Tears baby doll who strangely had Margaret Thatcher style bouffant hair

funbags3 · 27/10/2023 12:33

I was a 70s child so it was Sindy and to a lesser extent, Pippa.

IHeartGeneHunt · 27/10/2023 12:39

Sylvanian Families! I had the rabbit family. And a random badger so I pretended he'd been adopted.
I had three Barbie's, who had a very dramatic imaginary life not unlike EastEnders.
And My Little Pony- I had a second hand castle and about ten ponies.

I loved the my little Teapot. I never had one though.
My Favorites were.
Care Bears.
My little Ponies.
Strawberry shortcake doll. She used to smell like strawberries and an orange blossom one.
Flower fairies.
Chicaboo (an adorable little monkey)
Toy school. It had little desks and chairs and a round a bout, slide and swings. . I remember I named one of plastic figurines Alan Crushcore.
My Dad was called Alan so that was obviosly after him but I don't know where the hell Crushcore came from. 😂
The Pound puppies. (They were so cute)
They weren't really toys as such but I remember I had these pencil toppers who I called Aveline Armistead and Strife Crammie. 😂. They went missing and I was absolutely freaking raging. 😂

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/10/2023 12:50

I also remember I used to love sailing my little toy boats in a bowl. I'd sit for hours

Pineapplewaves · 10/12/2023 18:16

I had that sink and the washing machine that went with it. I remember it used to make an awful mess with water flooding the kitchen table and running all over the floor (and the dolls clothes came out of the washing machine dripping wet and had to be hung somewhere). I only remember being allowed to play with them with actual water a couple of times!

My favourite toys were my life like baby doll, care bear, Sindy doll and Glo Friends.

muddyford · 10/12/2023 18:18

Lego, toy farm, fuzzy felts, cuddly animals. Not dolls.

Ahh I bloody loved my Tree House . I was born tail end of the sixties so I must have been given it sometime in the 70's . It really is an iconic toy of the time .
My parents must have given it away .
I was also given a Baby Alive , which you just fed this porridge like substance all day , then it comes out the other end , which I would tip back into the bowl and re-feed it back to the doll 🤣 .My mum must have worried about my future parenting skills 😁.

stepintochristmas1 · 10/12/2023 18:40

Oh I also had a little ironing board and iron ,which I used to get out and copy my mum when she was ironing Hmm , what the fuck was all that about ? I hate ironing , I married a soldier , he was good at it .

sleepismyhobby · 10/12/2023 18:42

Baby First Love, I adored this little doll! One eye stopped blinking and she got sent to the city doll hospital and oddly came back with slightly different skin tone.... Also loved Sindy and my teddies the twin dolls Carrie and Christopher. Wish I'd kept them had piles of clothes that were really well made!

riotlady · 10/12/2023 20:03

I swear that teapot was in every doctors/dentists waiting area when I was a child, I was talking about it with DH the other day when we took DS to the doctors!

I was a 90s kid so loved my tamagotchi, furby (don’t think anyone else in the house loved it though!), Barbies, beanie babies, etc. At after school club they had a massive box of k-nex and we used to build cars then smash them into each other to see whose survived the best.

I also had a working pink Barbie typewriter which was my most prized possession

snowlady4 · 10/12/2023 21:41

I was a big fan of spirograph.
I also had a doll with green hair, I called her Christine- I had a fab dolls pram.
