Day with teenage son

If you suddenly found yourself with an unplanned, rare whole day just you and your teenage (15) son, what would you do with it?

Due to various factors, it's suddenly just me and my 15yr old today. He is still asleep, I am going to wake him up shortly and give him the wonderous news that we can spend the day together 😁 just trying to make a plan as to what we will do with our day!

What would you do?

Depends on his/your interests. My son is the same age and if I was planning a day for us I’d get the train to Liverpool, go to a couple of museums then pizza for lunch and a bit of shopping in the afternoon - no doubt getting fleeced for new Vans and an Xbox game in the process! However, I know that would would like the day from hell to my nephew who would much rather do something sporty.

I’d ask him what he’d really like to do.

Catsfrontbum · 25/10/2023 09:49

Lush

Go out for brunch, then hit an exhibition in the city. Then go round some shops and spend some money. Then ramen for supper and cinema.

I’d ask him what he’d really like to do.

What do you think he might say? 😊

What would your suggestions be if he doesn't have any ideas?

My DS's main interest is food. I'd take him to Yo Sushi and then the cinema. But also, over lunch, I'd try to get him to talk about his friends, ambitions, fears, etc., because actually getting more than a few grunts out of him is rare.

This sounds like a lovely day!

Lunch and cinema? That’s always a winner with mine. Or cinema and dinner so you have some immediate conversation if that’s a struggle?

Poniesandrainbows · 25/10/2023 09:53

Mine would want a long walk, then a museum followed by nice food out somewhere.

1stworldissues · 25/10/2023 09:54

Theme park?

NancyJoan · 25/10/2023 09:54

Today DS and I are going to IKEA, where we will have meatballs and look for a rug, then to a supermarket to buy pumpkins.

NoNeedToHurry · 25/10/2023 09:59

Great ideas! He has already booked to go to the FNAF movie with a friend tomorrow so not sure about cinema, but defo food and shopping (I think I can bribe him with Waterstones, he loves anime / graphic novels)

Well my 16 year old would grunt, roll over and moan that I was dragging him out of bed at the ungodly hour of 9.45am! 🙄

However if he did get up, he'd want a trip into town with coffee & cake, shopping and Pizza Express (weirdly, he also loves a trip to IKEA!)

I don’t know but mine would probably have said cinema then chips on the seafront. We had some lovely days, it’s a great age.

gotomomo · 25/10/2023 13:06

At 15/16 leave them in bed until they wake then go for food

ilovetomatoes · 25/10/2023 13:25

Mine is a bit younger than yours but we did geocaching yesterday, it was great fun.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/10/2023 13:56

Mine is 24 so I’m casting my mind back .

He’d want a lie in then breakfast out somewhere.

”Not that London and don’t start with the tired of London tired of life quote, mother. “
One of those outdoor adventure park places with zip wires, jeep driving . Probably not impromptu though.

Just not shopping 😁he’s the same now

If I did this he wouldn't emerge til 2pm and half the day would be gone 😂

Thanks for all the replies. we have had a lovely day with lots of nice food, some shopping and a film (at home, nothing in the cinema he wanted to see) and about to watch another one!

To a PP - I wish we could have done chips on the seafront! I love the sea. Sadly we are many miles from the coast.

Hope everyone has had a nice day
