Board games and card games

Are these pastimes anything you ever do? I used to be quite good at Trivial Pursuit (provided I knew the answers to the questions) and I've won a few games of Scrabble in my time. Oddly enough, I could never get my head round Junior Scrabble. I've never learned to play chess, could manage draughts and backgammon. Never played Cluedo or Monopoly. I must have played snakes and ladders in the last fifty years but not ludo.

I occasionally break out the cards for a game of patience or solitaire, whatever it's called now. I used to like pontoon and straight draw poker but I can't remember the rules to the latter. Are games like bridge and whist still a thing now? Bridge clubs certainly used to be a big social draw. And the scoring information for contract bridge could be found in every pack of cards!

Why not join a local Bridge Club OP? Great for playing Bridge (obviously!) and meeting new people.

There’s a great book called the board game cafe by Jennifer Page and in real life she’s creating/going to cafes for board game night! I love board games, especially good old snakes and ladders, ludo and chess!! latest are cards against humanity (family version!!) and labyrinth. Great way to get people off screens on a Friday and Saturday night!

Ps excuse the lack of capitals above, my phone is on the blink!!! And the little board game cafe book is a romantic comedy for anyone who likes them!!!

Quirkle and Mexican train are our favourites to play with my parents.

loved rumikub until everyone took about ten mins to have their turn even though rules say 1 min only. Refuse to play that now.

Quirkle is my favourite

S

We found some good one here - saw them being played first - I think there are some on-line versions for some of them.

Sometime there may be local groups that play some - though one at community center were OAPs always doing scrabble and nothing else - and one in town was more role playing ones and teens.

I like ticket to ride - I think that's my favourite board game ever.

Great choice for an auction theme! Board games and card games can be popular items, especially among those who enjoy tabletop gaming

I take it you don't have DC?

Ooh I remember the bickering over games , my youngest used to get in a complete sulk when he was losing, used to cause hassle to get thrown out of the games .
Guess he learned something though that he could see when he was losing .

I'm totally into board games and card games! Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble are classics, right? I've dabbled in a bit of Scrabble myself, but Junior Scrabble always threw me for a loop too.Chess and backgammon are cool, but I've never really gotten into them. Monopoly and Cluedo are on my to-play list though. As for card games, I'm all about patience and solitaire. Never tried pontoon or straight draw poker, but they sound like a blast.Bridge and whist might not be as big as they used to be, but they're still around. Personally, I've been getting into double deck pinochle lately.
