What time do you eat dinner/evening meal?

We are a family of 5. Children 9 and under. Youngest almost 3.

We usually eat around 5.30pm.
A friend has kids a similar age and eats around 8pm which results in a later bedtime.

Just wondering what time is dinner for you? And what time would your young kids that age go to bed?

Our youngest is usually in bed around 7.30/7.45. Older two around 8.30/8.45pm.

2 children age 1 and 2. We eat at 5.30pm. Children in bed by 7.30pm and up around 7am.

I couldn’t make the children wait till later to eat and I’ll be damned if I’m making dinner twice! If I waited till 9pm to eat dinner I could never be bothered and would just end up eating something like cereal or toast!

Topsyturvy33 · 04/10/2023 21:35

eat around 6ish dependent on various kids activities. I don’t eat again until the next day.

bed 9:30ish and up at 6:30.

7pm, mine aren't in school yet and sleep whenever but wake up at 7am always. Bed time is usually 8-9ish.

Titsywoo · 04/10/2023 21:44

7pm usually. We used to eat at 8.30-9pm but since being diagnosed with GERD I am much more careful about not eating in the 3 hours before bed.

Titsywoo · 04/10/2023 21:45

Sorry did't read the OP properly - my kids are now teens so bedtime not really an issue. When they were younger they ate at 5 and went to bed at 8. We used to eat after they went to bed.

I cook dinner for 3 DC's ready to eat at 5pm. DH & I eat a different meal (normally cooked by him but sometimes me) around 9/10. Both work - I wfh and dh gets in after 7... we need downtine before we eat. Although to be fair, cooking 2 different dinners a day is madness..

looking4pup · 04/10/2023 22:00

We eat about 5-6

PuttingDownRoots · 04/10/2023 22:06

Monday 7.30
Tuesday 7.30
Wednesday 5.30
Thursday 6.30
Friday 5.00
Saturday 6.30
Sunday 6.00

All around extracurricular activities.

CoreopsisEverywhere · 04/10/2023 22:07

mine varies according to the day of the week

Monday 8pm after pilates
Tuesday 6pm before bell ringing
Wednesday 6pm before going out (book club, meetings, school stuff)
Thursday 8:30 after pilates
Friday 7pm between taxi duties with children
Saturday, Sunday 7ish

the ideal is 6. If I eat later I’ll end up snaking at 5 because I’m hungry.

Children get grumpy if we eat later than 6, and the eldest often does his own food based around work schedules. They’re teens so bedtimes are irrelevant to the feeding times.

Oblomov23 · 04/10/2023 22:14

6pm

punnetofcherries · 04/10/2023 22:14

About 7pm
Husband and I have finished work and I'm home (quite often I'm away for work) and can get food ready.
Kids are coming in from work too.
If we go to the gym etc we eat much later....

Can't understand people who eat dinner at 5/530! Most people are still at work then!Even when the kids were young we adults ate later after the kids had gone to bed.

Sconehenge · 04/10/2023 22:16

Up at 7:30 AM, dinner usually on table by around 7pm. In bed by 10:30 unless making poor choices.

mynameiscalypso · 04/10/2023 22:17

3 or 4 nights a week, we eat with DS(4) at 7pm. On the other nights, he eats earlier around 6.30ish and we eat after he's gone to bed at 8.30.

Vettrianofan · 04/10/2023 22:19

Breakfast 6.30am, lunch 11.30am/noon and dinner around 4pm, supper 7.30pm😀

Leftleg · 04/10/2023 22:20

Family of 5, we all together about 6pm Sunday to Thursday, weekend we tend to eat at different times.

Devilsmommy · 04/10/2023 22:20

Eat at 5-5:30. Got a 1 yr old who goes to bed 6-6:30. Me and dh bed by 9-10. Though I'm up alot (insomnia) and scrolling mn😁

gingercat02 · 04/10/2023 22:21

We eat around 7pm. When ds was little, he ate earlier but usually the same thing, and DH and I ate about 7:30.
I'm home after 5pm a d have to cook. DH is often not home until after 6pm.
Eating later also stops me picking later in the evening

MidnightOnceMore · 04/10/2023 22:22

It ranges from 4pm to 7pm.

gotomomo · 04/10/2023 22:22

6.30 ish, always have done from when I had my kids. They are adults now. Much later and ingestion is worse!

Growlybear83 · 04/10/2023 22:24

We usually eat around 8.30 and I aim to go to bed at 1, and to go to sleep by 2. I'm generally up by about 8, although sometimes earlier depending on work commitments.

MoiraRosesBaybay · 04/10/2023 22:24

About 7.30. I start cooking at 6.30 so I can listen to the comedy on Radio 4 while I do it.

gotomomo · 04/10/2023 22:24

I don't know how you can eat so late - we are all on omeprezole as it is Grin

Shadyboots23 · 04/10/2023 22:25

No DC and it depends what shift I'm on
Usually between 5.30pm - 7.30pm

WeWereInParis · 04/10/2023 22:25

The same time as you. We have a 4 year old and an 18 month old. We couldn't eat as late as your friend. Bedtime would end up too late and then DD1 would struggle getting up for school. Currently she wakes up pretty much at the time we need to be getting her up anyway so I think we've got bedtime in about the right place.
