Received V5 but not got new car yet

Hi just looking for some advice can’t seem to find answer on google. My parents are in the process of buying a new car the delivery date is being pushed back time and time again. Today they received the logbook or V5 form in the mail. They haven’t paid a penny yet for this car and are currently looking by at the end of Nov/early Dec original date was Sept. My dad called Arnold Clark and his dealer was off today but someone else spoke to him and told him this was a good thing and may mean the car will be here earlier.
I may just be being overly suspicious but this seems odd to me. Be happy to be told this is pretty common. They are going to pop into the show room tomorrow but I wanted to check what people’s thoughts were.

(Ive not got any direct experience but did once have a slightly interesting talk with a garage owner who told me about the ways of the motor trade and the importance of quarterly sales targets for garages and for the car manufacturers' official sales figures)

To me that sounds like a positive sign - they would not be able to register the car and process the V5 without the vehicle physically existing. I would have thought that the car will be delivered to the garage in the next few days ready for pickup.

The motor trade is very targets driven and so probably they wanted to register it in September to meet the sales target and get their bonus.

Check on the DVLA website - https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax - enter the registration number and it will tell you date of first registration, obviously it wont be taxed yet

Thanks for that information. I’d be delighted if they get their car int the coming week will keep my fingers crossed. Just wanted to check if anyone knew anything about it as it seemed a bit odd to me normally when I’ve bought cars I don’t get it for at least a couple of weeks. Thank you

In case anyone else is every looking for similar info. He went to the showroom today to ask and his car was there! Pick up on Thursday one happy dad!
