Periods and a mothers instinct

Is this a thing? Do mothers get an instinct for predicting the arrival of their daughters periods?

DD is 12 in December and has just started secondary. She’s really emotional and cuddly (which isn’t usually like her to be honest). Struggling to know if this is just the secondary school transition, sheer exhaustion or she’s about ready to start her periods? Or maybe it’s all three 🤦‍♀️. She had only opened her eyes for around 2 minutes this morning before she burst into tears.

She usually is pretty resilient though so I’m straw clutching for Mother Nature to make an appearance 🤞. I was 13 but she’s a bit more developed than what I was at her age. Any words of wisdom mumsnetters?

Hi OP, I don't know whether I had a sixth sense but DD was 12 and the week before hers started I had an inkling to make sure she was properly informed ( think I had bought a little booklet or something) so that was good timing! Like yours she was getting extremely emotional. Of course the school transition could be playing it's part. Hope she's ok.

I had no inkling - my eldest was 10 and my youngest was 9.

Now I can predict them to a t, despite their cycles still being a bit erratic. The big one gets congested and requests Angel Slices, the little one slams doors and seethes with fury.

I didn't predict either, dd1 was 14 and a bit. Dd2 was 16 and 2 months (and we were awaiting a specialist appointment as she hadn't started at 16)

Ahh okay thank you all for your replies. It’s unusual for her to burst into tears but I’m just not sure if it’s starting secondary or maybe hormonal. She’s done it a few times since starting secondary though. I think my instinct is telling me it’s probably her periods arriving. She is tall and physically quite well developed.

I did smile at the angel slices 😊 🍰. I think i prefer my stroppy pre teen to the really emotional one that’s appeared 😢.
