Savoury breakfast ideas?

If I want something savoury instead of my usual porridge, does it have to be eggs? I have fish fingers with sweet potato fries and baked beans this morning, but I'd prefer something to prepare and cook. Grateful for any ideas. I'm omnivorous but probably wouldn't want bacon or other meat more than once or twice a month.Edited because of annoying autocorrect of fries to fried.

Savoury pancakes! I love soft goats cheese, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes. Hmmmm...

Baked mixed mushrooms in a cheesy herb sauce on toast.

(I like eggs; we just didn't have access to any for such a long time because of bird flu!)

Fab ideas here. I love a savoury breakfast .... finished off Saturday's shepherds pie this morning. DH thinks I'm crazy.

Look up congee - Chinese rice porridge.

I just oats instead as they're quicker, preferably in some kind of stock. I top it with leftover or preserved veg, pickles smoked fish, olive oil, soy sauce, wherever combination takes my fancy. But the olive oil and soy sauce really makes it.

Mushrooms and fresh thyme on toast is one of my favourites.

Or at the weekend I sometimes have a veggie sausage sandwich/bread roll.

Loving this thread - all my suggestions have already been made but I would add miso soup for something light

Redlarge · 18/09/2023 11:50

Sardines or mushrooms on toast, both good for you and yum.
Ham and cheese wrap warmed up

Needhelp101 · 18/09/2023 11:59

This thread has made me realise that I never have a non-savory breakfast!

I like marmite on toast with butter and sliced tomatoes on top.

AdaColeman · 18/09/2023 12:12

Cottage cheese, sliced tomatoes, chopped herbs such as chives, on rye bread, a lovely fresh taste to start the day, I first had it in Poland.

Bowl of Russian potato salad with chopped sausage.

Croque Monsieur or croque Madame.

Rollmops in sour cream or greek yoghurt with rye bread.

French onion soup with toasted cheese.

Pork pie...a Boxing Day special!

Junebughustle · 18/09/2023 12:32

You can bake savoury cheese and tomato muffins, they keep well in the fridge!
