Oasis fans….help!

I’m getting married in December and want to walk down the aisle to Oasis. They’ve been my favourite band for as long as I remember and nothing else would feel right.

I have a problem though…which song?

I have my ultimate favourites. The Masterplan, Stop crying your heart out, Little by little, Don’t go away, Round are way, Roll it over…..
but I don’t know if my love for those songs is obscuring the fact that they’re perhaps not suitable?

Wonderwall is a great tune, but overplayed over the years and not ‘special’ enough to me.

What would you choose?

Thanks!

Little by Little is a fabulous song but not right for a wedding. I'd go with Live Forever.

MimsyBorogroves · 31/08/2023 14:35

Live Forever.

Actually, my favourite Oasis song (just ahead of Little by Little) also works - Acquiesce.

she's electric?

UndercoverCop · 31/08/2023 14:38

I'd go for she's electric and raise a few eyebrows

Fearnecuptea · 31/08/2023 14:39

Defo live forever, love that song so much.

The lyrics for little by little are SO not suited to walking down the aisle, it would probably be quite amusing for guests (surely?!)

Little by little
The wheels of your life have slowly fallen off
Little by little
You had to give it all in all your life
And all the time, I just ask myself why you're really here
Why am I really here?
Why am I really here?
😂

Have a great wedding!

TheMasterplan23 · 31/08/2023 14:42

She’s electric would be incredible….not sure my mum would appreciate the “I quite fancy her mother” bit tho 🤔

‘Whatever’ would be a good starting point for married life though…just so he knows I will be continuing to do whatever I like 😀

I would do what PP suggests and have an instrumental version, we did this with Elbow’s One Day Like This.

Also, if it is a church ceremony you may find that the vicar will want to approve songs with lyrics to ensure they are appropriate, that has been the case for a funeral I organised at a different church. It’s easier to have an instrumental from that point of view.

DrivingCadillacsInOurDreams · 31/08/2023 14:47

I want to come to your wedding 😂😂

TheMasterplan23 · 31/08/2023 14:49

@Evenstar yes this is my worry. Unfortunately Noel didn’t take this in to consideration when writing his songs…he says ‘god’ quite often. I don’t really want an instrumental version, it’s the words that I love so it would be almost pointless without them. I’m waiting for my lightbulb moment…!

Till then….Fuckin in the bushes it is! 😂

What about We're on our way now? HFB?

I think with any of these, people won't listen to the lyrics as closely as you are. Obviously you're dissecting them, you know the 'hidden' meanings, but in truth your guests will just pick up on the chorus, and the general mood of the song.

TheMasterplan23 · 31/08/2023 14:51

@DrivingCadillacsInOurDreams

Well you may still get an invite! DP has been merrily inviting everyone he bumps in to!

@DrivingCadillacsInOurDreams

One of my favourite HFB tunes. Unfortunately it’s one on my lift for my funeral (yes I’ve already planned the music for that 😂) so I probably shouldn’t have it at my wedding first!!

Yeah but not every single lyric has to apply! It's your wedding at the end of the day. I would go with whatever song you both love the most.

NotMadeOfStone · 31/08/2023 14:59

Oh yeah, Whatever would be cool!

gogomoto · 31/08/2023 15:03

Champagne supernova

Baneofmyexistence · 31/08/2023 15:11

I walked down the aisle (abroad registry office!) to the Vitamin String Quartet version of Stand By Me. I wanted Oasis and thought that sounded more traditional wedding! There will probably be something wrong with a lyric in every Oasis song as they are a bit random so just choose your favourite song and go with it, you can have whatever you like!

gogomoto · 31/08/2023 15:12

But if it's a church, check they can even do this, our sound system is rubbish! Plus the timing is really hard with recorded music, you'll need something 3 minutes max or edit it (church organists skip repeats or add repeats as necessary to make it fit)

One option though is

See if your organist will play it!
gogomoto · 31/08/2023 15:13

(Unless it's Westminster abbey, need more minutes thereGrin)

TheMasterplan23 · 31/08/2023 15:19

@gogomoto

Our church sound system is epic! In fairness it’s the one thing that’s not falling apart 😳

Idlers dream? It's almost a never mentioned track, but it's beautiful.

We had Slide Away (and movin' on up primal scream) at our wedding 😎

AlphaAlpha · 31/08/2023 15:32
Imenti · 31/08/2023 15:36

Talk Tonight or Love Like A Bomb - we had the second as our walking out music xx

WhiskersPete · 31/08/2023 15:51

Slide Away for sure! Especially if there's an acoustic version
