A bin. And grit salt. This is the mundanity of my purchases now. And don’t get too excited, but a pizza cutter is also being delivered imminently.

what mundane purchases have you bought recently? Tell me I’m not the only one buying bins.

A child's plastic step stool, cause I'm short (5") and have a bad leg, so I need it to get in and out of our bath.

buddhasbelly · 24/08/2023 23:12

As I too am of a short stature I may invest in your child’s step stool. More mundane purchase ahoy.

I brought a cheese grater.

I need a kitchen bin.

AbbieLexie · 24/08/2023 23:14

A photograph of your grit bin would be appreciated. I think we need one.

ghostbusters · 24/08/2023 23:17

A set of wee brushes, like mini bottle brushes designed for cleaning the spout of a tea pot, exept mine are to help when DH cleans the fish tank.

peachgreen · 24/08/2023 23:17

This is going to sound a bit mad but I love threads like this. There’s something so cosy about hearing the little domestic details of other people’s lives. It reminds me of looking at lit-up windows from the car at night in winter as a child, or the feeling I get listening to people calling in to the weekend shows on Radio 2. (I really do sound mad, don’t I?)

ANYWAY. My latest mundane-yet-exciting purchases were a corkscrew that actually works (Brabantia! It’s a breeze!) and an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner. Everything is so SPARKLY.

Tessisme · 24/08/2023 23:18

A grit bin? I like the sound of that.

CrapBucket · 24/08/2023 23:20

I was just thinking today how pleased I am with the kitchen bin I bought 2 years ago. It takes ordinary black bin bags, it has no parts to break, perfect size, easy to clean. It’s just the perfect bin. And I’m so happy I chose it even a couple of years on.

moggo · 24/08/2023 23:24

@CrapBucket I have been scouring the internet and shops for such a bin. Can you tell me where you found this perfect bin?

UnctuousUnicorns · 24/08/2023 23:28

We could do with a new kitchen bin, our whippet has chewed the top of ours. Maybe we need a metal one...

Aparecium · 24/08/2023 23:32

I need a new ultrasonic jewellery cleaner. I chucked mine last year - I hadn't used it for a while and the batteries had leaked all over it. Now my earrings have two years of gunk building up in them. A toothbrush and dish soap just don't cut it.

My most recent mundane purchases were 3 different bath mats. Monochrome zigzags, colourful stripes, and soft spots.

peachgreen · 24/08/2023 23:34

I just bought some herb cutters and floristry scissors off the back of this thread. Reminded me that I’ve been wanting some. Whatever next?

peachgreen · 24/08/2023 23:35

@CrapBucket I so get this. I have sliding bins under the sink from IKEA and they make me so contented every time I use them. So easy to clean, so hidden and out of the way.

BrandyandGinger · 24/08/2023 23:36

I bought the tiniest brush that fits into the hole at the bottom of the fridge and unblocks it. It's a thing of wonder.

AtrociousCircumstance · 24/08/2023 23:36

Huh now I realise I need an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner. How have I tolerated my jewellery without it?!

Welcomer · 24/08/2023 23:52

I'm interested in this grit bin, maybe we need one. Which did you go for?

I need this in my life.

I’ve just been trying to find it online, sadly no luck. But I’m sure it was from The Range. It has no branding or logo but says made in UK on the bottom and I’m sure it was from an eco range i.e. it is made from recycled plastic.

I love it because the bin and lid are separate pieces of plastic. The top just lifts up by hand and stays up because of physics not because of a stupid mechanism that will break. So easy to wash/clean because gunk can’t get caught in crevices. Can take the whole lid off and sweep peelings from worksurface into bin. Is light enough to move easily. It’s basically the simplest thing in the world and WORKS. And must have cost a tenner or less as I was very broke when I bought it.

I need that too!

Todays purchases (actually DHs as he has the Amazon prime account) for an upcoming holiday are a new tick card (couldn't find the old one, should have been in a rucksack) and earplugs which will hopefully fit my ears, can't get standard ones in.

continentallentil · 25/08/2023 00:03

New shoelaces

3 story hanging shelves for the wardrobe

I would like a potato separator tray like my MIL has but I can’t find it online so have to ask her where it comes from

MajesticWhine · 25/08/2023 00:03

I have just purchased a new tiny bathroom bin. I'm quite excited by the idea of a grit bin.

Adding bath mats to my list..

Ineedwinenow · 25/08/2023 00:07

I’ve just bought some new under counter strip lights as our others had all blown and we couldn’t be arsed/forgot to buy them but finally after the last flicker of light on the last one we bought new! Exciting stuff, I’ll be able to see using those lights again and not use the big light , woohoo!! Great boring thread! Grin

MargaretThursday · 25/08/2023 00:08

I got one for Christmas last year.
We have a sloping drive and if it snows/freezes then we need lots of grit, which used to involve me having to lug it round from the shed in the back garden.

I love it.

TakingTheLowRoad · 25/08/2023 00:09

Ikea discontinued my favourite kitchen cupboard storage box. I found a replacement (not as good but will do). Yesterday I discovered they are discontinuing this box too. I spent a significant amount of time opening every drawer in every desk in the Workspace department so I could purchase 10 of them! I also bought a runner for the laundry room to curb some of the dirt brought in by the dog and a pastry brush and scraper.
