A bin. And grit salt. This is the mundanity of my purchases now. And don’t get too excited, but a pizza cutter is also being delivered imminently.

what mundane purchases have you bought recently? Tell me I’m not the only one buying bins.

A box of plasters and a bottle of peppermint oil tomorrow a bath mat is being delivered

SuperSange · 25/08/2023 01:01

I too bought a bath mat and also a sleeping bag for camping.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 25/08/2023 01:02

New knitting needles 😂 a new insulated water bottle each for DC and I. However, I moved last year and now have a small garden with a path down the middle so I too am secretly contemplating the excitement of a grit bin.

obladeeobladah · 25/08/2023 01:09

From IKEA, a metal funnel thing to put jam into jars. It also came with a mini funnel and a random sieve too but I imagine I will use that for other things as I like my jam lumpy (and I have a glut of Victoria plums this year)

whoisjoe · 25/08/2023 01:18

Excellent thread.
my delivery this weekend consists of:
blister plasters - on offer (just incase)
ear thermometer disposable caps
rubber mallet
floss harps
slow closing toilet seat

i now think I need potato separator trays

smooththecat · 25/08/2023 01:21

It’s good planning to buy a grit bin in August. I bought a tennis grip.

eatyourveggies · 25/08/2023 01:24

This thread brings me great comfort & joy. And reminds me that we need a new bath mat.

Recently bought a shower scraper/squeegee to mitigate all the hard water marks. And an electric pump for paddling pool.

Waiting for a hamster ball, from Amazon.

@CrapBucket I so get this. I have sliding bins under the sink from IKEA and they make me so contented every time I use them. So easy to clean, so hidden and out of the way.

@peachgreen my new sliding bin is sitting waiting for me to install it. I know it will be a joy once it's in but procrastination is my middle name

Missingthegore · 25/08/2023 03:13

A set of 4 ziploc bag holders for ladleing food into bags for freezing. Game changer. No more juggling the bag, wrapping it over a jug etc.

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 25/08/2023 03:16

10kg bucket of dried chicken manure (for trees and plants) Swimming paddles (flat things you wear on your hands to increase resistance in the water, and build more muscle) and some drawer inserts to organise my kallax drawers.

Pepper grinder broke, a generic one from the supermarket so have purchased proper matching grinders for sea salt and pepper. I never ever thought I’d become so boring so quickly.

Duchessofspace · 25/08/2023 03:29

I’ve just brought a back scratcher - I had one and I couldn’t find it and had an itch in the wrong place - have brought myself a decent set of back scratchers x3 for £5 with delivery today from Amazon.

This is my bin

brought about 10 years ago from the range - we have two now but originally had 1- we have one for all black bin waste - and one for all recycling. They were originally £25 each but I can see prices have risen and they are now about £45 but for me with 3 labs that are like the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park working out bin and locks - they are brilliant as they lock easily and have been indestructible by children - they hold a black sack easily and to be fair we mainly recycle or compost -we have a two weeks black collection here and we maybe put one bag in a fortnight and it works well.
we have one for black bin and one for recycling and despite labs trying every trick to get in them they have remained indestructible - they come apart easily to clean - no broken bits - the lid stays up the lock locks easily and occasionally I clean it on a hot summers day with a hose and it’s as good as new!

This has been fab brought it 4 years ago and it goes under the utility room sink https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00DMMW22W/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

initially used it for compost but now we collect all the soft plastics in a bag and then recycle them.

Now we have a massive garden and three compost bins - I use recycling of Amazon brown bags and paper recycling for collection compost - I cut each of the paper bags up and line with cardboard and collect tea bags, scraps etc and then throw in compost. We have plenty of egg shells, non plastic tea bags, fruit from the orchard etc and it seems to be doing really well and making great compost - I don’t think I’ve put enough cardboard in before!!

Wow, these exist? Game changer, no more messy bags and drippy counters.

Thanks … irrationally happy!

Purchase of....... Silicone bath sealant.

No excuse not to remove the old stuff now and replace it. 😫

Ohyoudodoyou · 25/08/2023 03:50

A tyre inflator- cordless. It's brill!

daisychain01 · 25/08/2023 03:59

I can see the Daily Mail headline now

World crisis!
Grit-bin shortage unlikely to ease anytime soon.

my most recent mundane purchase was a square of tarpaulin to cover the compost heap. A collector's item from Wilco in their sale.

Crucible · 25/08/2023 03:59

Upright dustpan and brush, mop which comes apart in 6 pieces and an extra mop head, 4 hanging moth proofers X 3, a clikr, hydrogen peroxide. I'm glad I ordered each thing.

Where from I need 1 as well

Toddlerteaplease · 25/08/2023 04:02

A shower curtain. Almost bought a bin/ washing up bowl/ and sink drained set in the wilko sale. But would have been awkward to get home.

Festivfrenzy · 25/08/2023 04:09

A drawer, wardrobe pole brackets and storage boxes for IKEA bunk bed (as if remembering to the buy the separate pole isn't enough if an achievement, you also have to get the brackets for it separately...)

I'm most excited for the still to arrive double sided shower squeegee- one side straight, one side curved!

Cabin bed not bunk bed sorry. Desk and wardrobe underneath.

WhyDoesItAlways · 25/08/2023 04:11

What's a potato separator? What do you need to separate your potatoes from?

Also floss harp?

Whenever I go to buy something mundane online and see that little floaty banner saying 48 people are looking at this right now, I'll know it's you lot!

WhichEllie · 25/08/2023 04:20

I got a rectangular basket with three divided sections to put different tampons and liners and such in and keep it organised under my sink. This is a vast improvement from having all sorts of packages of them haphazardly in the cupboard that I would rummage through monthly while never knowing exactly what I had and inevitably buying more of something I had plenty of. I cannot fathom why I didn’t do this years ago.
