I have just bought a grit bin

A bin. And grit salt. This is the mundanity of my purchases now. And don’t get too excited, but a pizza cutter is also being delivered imminently.

what mundane purchases have you bought recently? Tell me I’m not the only one buying bins.

Well I have just ordered something you will all be envious of... a new wash bag.
I'm going into hospital for some surgery soon and I noticed my current one is looking decidedly tatty hence this extravagant purchase! It's quite nice though. Blue and white seaside type theme.
Might treat myself to some new slippers for the occasion too actually.

These are the most comfy slippers ever made (gavel). Highly recommended for Hospital. I wish you the best.

@buddhasbelly that's kind but it was to the poster I'd quoted, she is having surgery. That said - I wore those slippers last year for major surgery. Good sole grips, not too hot or too warm either

(this is a really pleasant thread 🌺)

A knife sharpener. Game changer. Various extension leads of different lengths with different configurations of plugs, USB sockets etc

ISeeARedDoorAndIWantToBreakIn · 25/08/2023 22:58

I bought a new style cat litter tray.

lurchermummy · 25/08/2023 23:04

Two massive bags of gravel

Mindovermatter247 · 25/08/2023 23:15

I brought a plastic caddy for my room as have controls for all lights and Tv… they kept getting knocked off so saw it in Morrisons which was handy.

I bought a new washing up bowl as people were coming to stay.

The old one is now in the shed with the previous three washing up bowls, which are discoloured but watertight. Useful.

I counted 3 washing up bowls stored in my garage. All perfectly fine, hardly used (used for camping in previous years). Not nice enough for the kitchen. But "useful" to keep....

I am supposed to be decluttering, but this thread is making me twitchy. I never considered buying a grit bin before, but I can't see any reason not to buy one

You lot are reprehensible!!

Kucinghitam · 26/08/2023 06:21

This thread is a terrible influence on me! DH has advised me to "step away from MN" as I keep suggesting little mundane purchases Grin

PlainJanePerfect · 26/08/2023 07:14

A metallic crinkly runner's blanket to keep the cat off the toddler bed.

And frequent those damp collectors which I had never seen until moving to this flat.

This is going to sound a bit mad but I love threads like this. There’s something so cosy about hearing the little domestic details of other people’s lives. It reminds me of looking at lit-up windows from the car at night in winter as a child, or the feeling I get listening to people calling in to the weekend shows on Radio 2. (I really do sound mad, don’t I?)

ANYWAY. My latest mundane-yet-exciting purchases were a corkscrew that actually works (Brabantia! It’s a breeze!) and an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner. Everything is so SPARKLY.

Not mad at all. Or if it is then you're in good company!
I want an ultrasonic cleaner. Which did you get?

Polkadotfleece · 26/08/2023 07:58

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 25/08/2023 06:41

I've got an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner I bought from Amazon in January, cleaned all my rings and now I need to put it on eBay.

But if someone wants to DM I'd happily post it for just the cost of the postage to the first person who contacts me

2023 Ultrasonic Jewellry Cleaner Portable and Low Noise Ultrasonic Machine for Jewellry, Ring, Silver, Retainer, Eyeglass, Watches, Coins, 350ML, 46KHz Ultrasound Cleaner Machine by Kunphy https://amzn.eu/d/1CByl6Z

Could I be considered please? Thank you 🙏

Looks pretty, but I'm not sure it beats my large yoghurt tub with the bottom cut off. Just insert tub into bag mouth and stand the whole thing up.

If you get it right, the tub protects the zip from filling up with gunk, too.

@PerkingFaintly - I’m pretty old these days, and thought I knew most housekeeping/ cooking hacks… but that suggestion about using an old yoghurt pot with the bottom cut out for pouring stuff into ziplock bags is genius 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/08/2023 08:27

A long wire with little brushes at each end to clean the sludge out of aquarium filter tubes.

freesolo76 · 26/08/2023 08:29

@IrritableVowel I could kiss you! I've been on the hunt for ages for what I know now is showergem! Fed up with all our bottles being stored on the floor but didn't want anything that will rust or constantly fall down with those crappy suction pads. Just ordered it!

Bimblesalong · 26/08/2023 08:31

I have bought an enamel soap dish with an insert that allows my soap to drain without sitting in water and getting claggy. I use soap for showering and hand washing in an attempt to reduce some of our plastic use.

I need an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner - any recommendations?

Evenstar · 26/08/2023 08:32

I have 84 sachets of kitten food arriving for the mummy cat and three kittens I am fostering for the local rescue I volunteer for 😻 is that a bit too exciting?

rileynexttime · 26/08/2023 08:35

Get thee behind me @freesolo76 .I really want that showergem but it's a little pricey for me.

You are welcome!

I have had it about 3 years and it hasn't budged. Comes off easy enough to clean.

when we redid bathroom I bought a replacement fixing from them which comes with fresh glue, so it went up in new shower with no issue.

I do not work for Shower Gem 😂

Oh I dithered @rileynexttime and they aren't cheap but I am so pleased with it.

We bought our first house 3 years ago, having rented until we were 40+ and I am trying to buy better quality, longer lasting household items, after 20 odd years of stuff that will "do for now"

Slowly getting there

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 26/08/2023 09:13

@Polkadotfleece

Absolutely. I'm away for the BH weekend but when I'm back I'll weigh it so I can calculate the postage and message you.
