A bin. And grit salt. This is the mundanity of my purchases now. And don’t get too excited, but a pizza cutter is also being delivered imminently.

what mundane purchases have you bought recently? Tell me I’m not the only one buying bins.

After about 15 years of thinking 'I really need a pastry brush' about three times a year, I've finally bought one off the back of this thread

I use a silicon pastry brush to clear out my toaster when turning it upside down and bashing it doesn't dislodge the stuck on crumbs

So going to get the reusable dental floss harp when my two bags (that I searched forever for) run out

And I use a little half moon of rubber from work for cat hair on the stair

For those asking about jewellery cleaners, the one I have isn’t available on Amazon any more but I think this is the same make. Tbh I’ve not found one that’s lasted much longer than 3 years but this one is the best so far!

2 meters of 75mm diameter reinforced rubber hose.

I read this as 2m of 75mm diamanté reinforced rubber hose 🤣. Now that's the kind of gardening that could make me smile!

2 socket extensions. They're arriving today. Yay! Fed up of running out of sockets.

A washing up bowl. Got that on Thursday.

@IrritableVowel I could kiss you! I've been on the hunt for ages for what I know now is showergem! Fed up with all our bottles being stored on the floor but didn't want anything that will rust or constantly fall down with those crappy suction pads. Just ordered it!

And you can take it off easily and put it in the dishwasher to clean it!

Crunchymum · 26/08/2023 15:13

I filled up a plant pot from the grit bin down the road when we last had snow / ice so I could grit my pathway. Made sure I only took a little (and I put what we didn't use back when the weather improved).

Most recent and mundane purchase [other than medicated shampoo as my psoriasis is flaring up] are universal stabilisers for DC3 bike, which is a very welcome hand me down but it no longer has stabilisers.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 26/08/2023 15:42

A new Allen key and an OS map for me today!

A beechwood spatula. Can't use metal in our non-stick pans, and plastic ones keep getting melted ends, so this should solve the problem.

I have 84 sachets of kitten food arriving for the mummy cat and three kittens I am fostering for the local rescue I volunteer for 😻 is that a bit too exciting?

@Evenstar way too exciting for this thread, so you must be punished by taking pics of your fosters and posting them here 😍

Plastic spatulas are useless but I find silicone ones very robust and unlike wood they can go in the dishwasher. Beechwood probably looks though.

This week -

magnetic soap holders
a three in one charger, (for phone, watch and for charging up the power bank.)
a dishwashing brush that you can put the soap liquid into.

For those looking for a tiny brush to get into the hole in the fridge, you can use a cable tie to poke it clean. I've done it for years.

doitwithlove · 26/08/2023 17:55

No grit bin but £24. worth - (which is a lot) of grit in my shed.

Purchased last year, I call it a good investment to keep me upright and safe #ihatesnow

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 26/08/2023 18:26

I find silicone tends to go irretrievably sticky after a while.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 26/08/2023 18:28

Also, when I said 'spatula' I meant 'fishslice'.

I have just ordered a new toaster as the old one tripped the electric today possibly because I rammed a big fat hot cross bun into it. The new one claims to fit such things and has the controls on the front instead of the side so I can actually see them!

Azaeleasinbloom · 26/08/2023 19:09

So, inspired by this thread, I tried to order a grit bin, to be told I live too far into the frozen North for that to be possible.
I mean, I need one more than anyone. Gutted 🤷🏻‍♀️

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 26/08/2023 19:55

That seems decidedly unfair, Azaleas.

Azaeleasinbloom · 26/08/2023 19:56

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn thank-you for understanding.

buddhasbelly · 26/08/2023 20:53

@Azaeleasinbloom im in the highlands and they’ve not emailed me to say “no grit bin for you, you’re too far north” - is this email imminent?!

@Kittensat36
https://www.friendlyfloss.com/

I'm another one intrigued by the potsto separator.

My most recently mundane purchase was toaster.tongs (bamboo, Lakelamd). A marvel! No more burnt fingers or dicing with death by using a knife.

And I can also second the recommendation of plug-in, stick-on LED striplights for undercounter lightning. Took 2 mins to install - no sparky required - and make such a difference.

They sound good but how do you get them all linked to one switch on the wall if you don’t need a sparky?, do they run on an app or something???

rileynexttime · 26/08/2023 22:15

They have a flex and a plug afaik.

IrritableVowel · 26/08/2023 22:17

The ones we have link together to the length you need, then you link the power lead in at the end.

Ahh, very similar to mine in that they all link together except you use the socket and I use a switch / google home 👍 thank you!
