A bin. And grit salt. This is the mundanity of my purchases now. And don’t get too excited, but a pizza cutter is also being delivered imminently.

what mundane purchases have you bought recently? Tell me I’m not the only one buying bins.

Waves to @buddhasbelly We are Grit Binfluencers too! We bought one 4 years ago as our drive slopes, and our neighbours both sides got one each, and this led to more people getting one too.
“I haven’t been arse over tit
Since we bought a bin for grit” 😆

I need to buy a soap dish.

Toastie7 · 25/08/2023 05:17

We bought a magnetic whiteboard to put on the fridge door for shopping lists. Apparently we need a lambourghini (husband) and doughnuts (daughter) in the shopping 🙂

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 25/08/2023 05:24

I’m assuming these are floss harps?

Veryverycalmnow · 25/08/2023 05:26

A drain cover thing for outside. I then forgot about ordering and got a bit excited opening the parcel only to find a drain cover. I felt a strange mix of satisfaction and self- pity.
Hope your grit bin brings you happiness.

Can someone recommend an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner? Asking for a friend 😉

@ErrolTheDragon if your DH has Amazon prime you can use the benefits on your account too: Amazon households

@CrapBucket I have been scouring the internet and shops for such a bin. Can you tell me where you found this perfect bin?

It wasn’t cheap but DH told me last night our new kitchen bin makes him happy. It makes me happy too. Its so easy to change the bags and clean the inner buckets, not that I’ve needed to. The bottom section rolls out on casters. Currently 20% on the Joseph Joseph site. There’s a white and a metal option for naughty whippets.

New chopsticks, I love chopsticks and my last multi set of lovely bamboo ones have gradually been disappearing into thin air (DH allowed one pair to be used in a craft project so I'm eyeballing him). It does mean I get lovely new ones though.

I feel your pain. I had some beautiful lacquered chopsticks, paired in pleasing colours. One craft project later I have a mismatched bundle of chopsticks, some with missing patches of lacquer post-sellotape. 😠

What's a potato separator? What do you need to separate your potatoes from?

Also floss harp?

Whenever I go to buy something mundane online and see that little floaty banner saying 48 people are looking at this right now, I'll know it's you lot!

Yes, I also need to know about the potato separator!Google only gives me agricultural machinery for separating potatoes from stones!

Yes, I was wondering why you need to separate potatoes. I have a feeling that once I find out, I will be a complete sucker and my life will not be complete without it.

Floss harps..... What I want is a reusable one that you don't throw the whole thing away, just wrap a fresh bit of floss round it. Less wasteful.

My latest purchase is a biscuit stamp. Looks like an icing syringe with a pastry cutter on the end..... Not sure if you roll out the dough and cut out shapes or pop a ball of dough in and press.

I am currently looking for a 4cm cookie scoop. I know I can get one online, but there are a couple of "you want it"* shops in my local market. I will try there first.

*You want it, I got it. If I haven't got it, I can get it. If I can't get it, you don't want it.

A very satisfying thread

Solasum · 25/08/2023 06:37

That totem bin is genius. Can anyone recommend one that isn’t nearly £200 though? I cannot bring myself to spend so much on a bin, when I could be buying anything else

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 25/08/2023 06:41

I've got an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner I bought from Amazon in January, cleaned all my rings and now I need to put it on eBay.

But if someone wants to DM I'd happily post it for just the cost of the postage to the first person who contacts me

I've just bought a new pair of gardening gloves for the weekend. And yes, I am fully aware that by doing so I have now ensured it will rain for the duration. The tipping point for choosing these particular gardening gloves was most definitely NOT the fact the brand is called Nicky Picky... I shall now be asking where my Nicky Pickys are until the end of time... 😁

I was just thinking today how pleased I am with the kitchen bin I bought 2 years ago. It takes ordinary black bin bags, it has no parts to break, perfect size, easy to clean. It’s just the perfect bin. And I’m so happy I chose it even a couple of years on.

Ah I have a bin that is similarly amazing @CrapBucket . Sometimes when I go past I open and close it, just to marvel once again at how good it is... 😂

Fraaahnces · 25/08/2023 06:44

WTF are POTATO SEPARATORS???
(I have toe separators and my toes look like spuds, but suspect we are not talking about these!)

frustratednomad · 25/08/2023 06:45

20 litres of white vinegar, I use it as a weedkiller on my drive.

TheFeistyFeminist · 25/08/2023 06:46

We have three bins quite like these in the lobby space by our back door (off the tiny kitchen) : general waste holds a black sack, recycling holds multiple cereal boxes as well as tins, bottles etc, and the third is for confidential waste that we shred to bulk out our compost. Cheap, from Amazon, and colour coded lids made it easy for smaller ones to get the hang of it. After years of expensive bins that didn't meet our needs this was £30 well spent.

ShoesoftheWorld · 25/08/2023 06:46

My dh and I first moved in together shortly before his birthday and he asked for a kitchen bin (with separate bits for recycling and waste, no less) as his gift Hmm Grin

My most recent amusing mundane purchase has been two oversized plastic crows to try and scare the pigeons off our patio.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 25/08/2023 06:53

@peachgreen what sonic cleaner did you buy? Would you recommend it, I’ve been after one for a while but don’t know which one to go for!

I bought the tiniest brush that fits into the hole at the bottom of the fridge and unblocks it. It's a thing of wonder.

What!!! I've been using an old metal skewer that my mum gave me years ago, it does the job but now I'm intrigued about this brush.

Please tell me more. The weeds on our block paved patio are never ending and our young cat’s a nibbler so I can’t use Pathclear anymore.

frustratednomad · 25/08/2023 07:09

@RomComPhooey 5 litres of white vinegar, cup of salt, 1tbsp washing up liquid, mix together and spray on weeds. I also have cats so needed a safe weedkiller and it works brilliantly.

Sgtmajormummy · 25/08/2023 07:09

I bought a budget fridge-freezer. It only has two (!) internal glass shelves, no ice cube tray, no smellproof container.
So yesterday I got
ice cube bags
hanging containers
pull-out trugs
lazy Susan
vegetable mat.
