My DD, almost 4, met a little boy today at holiday club named 'Feelings'.
She chatted about him all the way home - what she played with Feelings, what Feelings said, etc.
After some confusion I worked out that her new friend's name was in fact FELIX.
Has anyone else had a child rename a friend like this?!

For a long time DC talked about a child at her nursery called Gnocci.

I could not work it out at all … then one day I met Lachie.

DS made a friend on holiday, he was sure she was called Harrogate.
Yes, she was actually Harriet.

Floppyfrog · 25/08/2023 07:06

We had medicine (Madison)

GU24Mum · 25/08/2023 07:14

My eldest apparently had a "machine" in her year group (Roisin).

Bramblecrumble22 · 25/08/2023 07:15

My 4 year old had London, but she actually was London.

RedDoughnut · 25/08/2023 07:16

We had Vimto

He was Finton.

FourChimneys · 25/08/2023 07:29

I went to school with a Lorry.
I was quite a long way through school before I realised he was Laurence, shortened to Laurie.

JuicyFroot · 25/08/2023 08:08

I told my mum my best friend was 'Kittyfur'.
He was actually called Christopher...

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 25/08/2023 08:11

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 25/08/2023 08:11

I love kittyfur! That’s so cute.

RicherThanYews · 25/08/2023 08:14

My niece couldn't pronounce her baby step sisters name, so she called her Debtknee (Destiny). She was 2, it was adorable.

We have 2 neighbours with the name Jan, to differentiate between them my son calls one of them JanStu (Jan and Stuart) and the other 5catsJan, guess why 😁

@BellaTheDarkOverlord
My poor mum was baffled for ages, English not being her first language 😂

Ghostlight · 25/08/2023 08:15

We had NoFunnel from nursery for two years, before Nathaniel came to a barbeque with us.

I love this thread 😍😍

My sons friends mum is Jennifer. When our daughter was little she called her Jellyfur. Now known as Jell even though she knows her actual name. Jen just loved it and it stuck

littleripper · 25/08/2023 08:18

Jess, our very glamorous friend became Jeff. Then another friend, 5 foot 11 of elegance and perfection became 'big Jeff'
Bless them they loved it

Eudaimonia5 · 25/08/2023 08:25

These are making me laugh, particularly Jeff and Big Jeff!

I remember when my little one came home from school telling me about her new friend, Alan. She assured me Alan was a little girl and that was definitely her name. A week later, it became apparent that Alan was in fact called Lana.

Omg

Quisto · 25/08/2023 08:52

Talking with a school mum, she said her child was in a class with a girl named Soil.
I subsequently met another mum and her daughter Sorrel.

StarsOnAMat · 25/08/2023 09:31

My DS in primary one insisted his (male) friend’s name was A Girl. No amount of ‘what’s on his coat peg’ would budge him from ‘his name is A Girl’. I eventually worked it out at parents’ night - Argylle.

Valerie23 · 25/08/2023 09:37

Cauliflower. Actually name Macaulay.

LittleRedY0shi · 25/08/2023 09:42

3 year old DD mis-heard Mrs Thompson as Mrs Nonsense!

YouHoooo · 25/08/2023 09:45

DD has an Alfiesmith and an Alfiejones in her class

She’s totally sure that those are their proper first names, not that they have two Alfies differentiated with surnames.

Ahwig · 25/08/2023 10:22

I came home from school telling my parents about a new boy at school called Jam Pullover. Absolutely positive that was his name, turned out to be Jann Polcheq, he was polish. I knew he was polish and told them that whilst still insisting he was called Jam Pullover. My dad couldn't have told you what my teacher was called or some if my close friends but he always remembered Jam Pullover.
