My DD, almost 4, met a little boy today at holiday club named 'Feelings'.
She chatted about him all the way home - what she played with Feelings, what Feelings said, etc.
After some confusion I worked out that her new friend's name was in fact FELIX.
Has anyone else had a child rename a friend like this?!

When my son was younger he couldn't say "Ella" (sister) so he called her Della

Not a name, but as a child I was taught some hymns verbally not by reading from a book.

I thought Psalm 23 said 'in Partridge Green he leadeth me'.

When my son was 4 and at preschool, he told us all about a friend he had called Deeta. What games they played, what clothes she liked, what she did at the weekend, where she went on holiday etc...

When we were sending Christmas cards I asked if he wanted to give one to her. We wrote the card, then the card came back home in his bag the next day. Turns out, she was his imaginary friend. He stopped talking about her shortly afterwards. I felt a bit sorry about that as he used to be so happy talking about her.

I insisted for 2 years a girl in my class was called Barry. My parents eventually worked out it was Mhairi (pronounced varry)

GrumpyGoose · 29/08/2023 00:04

When DS was at preschool, one of the staff members was called Natasha and he argued with me because he was adamant she was Atasha.

My eldest came home from nursery talking about a little boy called Pie all week. The next week when I collected him he asked if Pie could come to play. I replied ' who is Pie, can you show me? A little boy piped up ' me, I'm Pie! But my family call me Kai ' My little boy had not heard the name Kai before so decided Pie was more likely 🤣

Name changed for this one.

When my 11 year old was a toddler, he had many alternate names for things and people due to speech issues.

Chickens were ninnins, pumpkins were nuntnins, clocks were cyocks, and his siblings were Yehyit and Yahyah instead of Eris and Sacha.

His speech is now superb, but when he is sad, poorly, stressed, or heading toward a crisis, he will revert to using Yehyit and Yahyah. They’re also the names I have the two of them saved under in my phone.

My 7 year old used to do this alllll the time. Same with TV shows, it would take days and manic googling to find out what she was talking about. ' Friendly Jokes' was her name for Ridley Jones. Now she just full names people but says it like it's one word

Years ago my son had a party invite from his nursery friend, addressed to Barry... His name is Harry.

AelinGalathynius · 29/08/2023 11:19

Youngest DD (2) kept saying her best friend at nursery was Pepper. Turned out to be Becca!

RavingStyle · 29/08/2023 13:46

DD had a friend called Dodo at nursery. She was actually Georgia!

She also loved those nature programmes on the BBC, presented by David Aften’s brother.

ilovepixie · 29/08/2023 16:12

My nephews P1 teaching assistant was called Wanda, or so we thought. Was actually Rhonda! We called her Wanda all year!

ilovepixie · 29/08/2023 17:44

Mumto6ac · 29/08/2023 22:22

My dd went to nursery with a boy called Miluke then I met her friend who she was adamant was ‘my Luke’

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 29/08/2023 22:37

My daughter came home last week raving about her new nursery friend 'Indybum'.

It turned out to be just India. No idea where the bum came from 😄.

FrogletandMe · 01/09/2023 16:49

I used to think my Mum's friend Yvonne was Avon. To be fair it was when the Avon catalogue was a big thing, and I think she may have been an Avon Lady. So I can kind of see why little me got confused. Smile

My kids spent their primary years at an International School which meant we had a gorgeous variety of names to contend with. One daughter was adamant that there was a boy called Cabbage in her reception class. Turned out he was called Kapish. My other daughter said there was a Henry B and a Henry K in her class. I think it took me a year or two to clock that Henry K was actually Enrique.

Deathraystare · 03/09/2023 08:42

Little brother used to refer to the guy next door as Buckle (Michael) hence Buckle's gike was Michaels bike!

PurpleChrayne · 03/09/2023 09:07

Jer-miner = Jemimah 😆

blimmy · 03/09/2023 09:22

One of my kids had a nursery friend, many years ago, apparently called Sammy Wool.
Took me a short while to realise the friend's name was actually Samuel!

I had a reception school mum ask me how 'Carrot' was settling in. I was a little thrown so just answered that he was a bit tired but really enjoying it. On going home and realising I'd just inadvertently renamed my child as a vegetable, I did the sensible gown up thing and ordered a personalised backpack with his name (Kurt) in 3 inch letters.

I got asked why I called DD carrots. She’s actually called Carys. 😂

MotherOfUnicorns4 · 03/09/2023 16:53

My friends child is called Marshall. When he was a toddler he couldn’t pronounce his name, so when asked he’d tell people he was called arsehole!

wizzbitt · 03/09/2023 18:55

This is a cute thread OP

My DS called his Gran, "Graun" so that's her name now.
My DD called her big brother Biddy, he's called Jimmy 🥰

MollyMini · 03/09/2023 19:48

My daughter came home telling me all about a little boy called Q. It wasn’t until a school trip later in the year when I discovered his name was Hugh….
