My DD, almost 4, met a little boy today at holiday club named 'Feelings'.
She chatted about him all the way home - what she played with Feelings, what Feelings said, etc.
After some confusion I worked out that her new friend's name was in fact FELIX.
Has anyone else had a child rename a friend like this?!

Jellybean was Geneveive!

Dd1 had a boy arrive from Spain into her class called Juan Carlo. She abbreviated to Juan-co…. Which would have been fine without the pronunciation of the J sound as W. Eventually we suggested she just called him Juan.

My kids had Mrs Cinnamon as their reception teacher (Miss Zimmerman).

Often they tell me they’ve made a really good friend at holiday club but when I ask their name they don’t know. It doesn’t occur to them to ask!

I spent many a summer playing at the beach with my friend Corner. And no, I absolutely would not accept, no matter how many times my mum told me, that his name was in fact… Connor.

DS1 new friend was Indigo - didn't seem that out there as his siblings were Scarlett and Olive.

however, transpired that the parents weren't building a rainbow, his name was actually Inigo.

My friend who was a TA had a Ukrainian surname which none of the kids could pronounce. They all called her Mrs Handkerchief.

My son went to nursery with a child he thought was called Raisin. He was called Fraser.

My daughter called our friends Katie and Sam “Titty and Ham” for ages. I was so disappointed when she learned to say their names properly!

AriannasGuitarCase · 28/08/2023 11:39

My friend's child told her that there was a boy called Meetoo in her nursery. Turned out that on the first day, one boy said "I'm x" and this boy then said "me too!" and all the other kids thought that was then his name Grin

maxandru · 28/08/2023 11:40

My dgs first friend in Reception was Kneehole, luckily I overhead the class teacher say Good Morning to Nihal.
There are two boys with the same first name and they are distinguished on the Christmas card list by surname initial which are L and R but according to my dgs one of the surnames is Permorgan as he always calls him by his whole (wrong) name - no clue as to the child's actual name yet and they start year 2 next month. We thought another of his friends was a girl called Eliza but was a boy called Elisha. Two other boys with the same name were designated 'silly' and 'sensible' but which one was which changed daily!
The other dgs just couldn't remember names. In Reception he still couldn't name all the children on his table by October half term holiday - they were just "my friend" or "my other friend".

NortieTortie · 28/08/2023 13:07

DS told me all about his new friend Lyra. Upon meeting Lyra's mom, I asked if she'd gotten her name from 'His Dark Materials'. She told me she'd never read it and then introduced me to her daughter, Lila 😁

Scaryghost · 28/08/2023 13:15

At university there was a chap from I think it was Singapore, whose name was (not sure on the spelling) Ni Han. One of my friends told me seriously that his name was Knee High. Tbf he did get introduced in a very noisy bar but I was very glad I was told the correct name before I met him!
