People your DCs have renamed

My DD, almost 4, met a little boy today at holiday club named 'Feelings'.
She chatted about him all the way home - what she played with Feelings, what Feelings said, etc.
After some confusion I worked out that her new friend's name was in fact FELIX.
Has anyone else had a child rename a friend like this?!

No renaming of people, but dd added an extra number - fifteen, sixteen, soxteen, seventeen..,

I remember ds learning to count. He got up to 29 and then stopped to think, because he didn't know the word thirty.
After a moment's thought he came up triumphantly with:
"Bumpty, bumpty-one, bumpty-two..."

I went to playgroup with an "Instrument"; turned out to be "Vincent".

Ds called his big sister "Urry" for ages. We have absolutely no idea why. He could say her name, which has absolutely nothing in common with it. We weren't always telling her to "hurry up", and it's not even really an expression I use anyway.

One of my little Ukrainian guests spent several months convinced that dh was called Good Evening and ds2 was called Careful.

My niece was originally called Philippa but when she was first born her older siblings kept calling her Flipper.Grin

After a month or so, Dsis changed the name to Emma.

DS2 went to school with a boy called Mutant. I couldn't believe he was actually called Mutant, but DS2 was adamant. One day leaving school the the car "Mutant" was in was at a junction, and we were stuck in traffic going the other way, so I wound down my window and asked him his name. I'm pretty sure he said Mutant! I finally saw his name written down, and it turns out he was called Newton. Of course.

'Alfie Keyboard'. His name was Alfie Keeble, but we still all call him Alfie Keyboard!

maddingcrow · 25/08/2023 19:07

Daughter said her nursery worker was called 'Seedy'. I thought weird but could be from a different language, Sidi or Ceedee, maybe. Turns out it was Phoebe Grin

I asked my DD what her friends new baby sister was called, "Fairytits" was the reply! Turned out to be Verity.

That just cracked me up.

This thread should be pinned at the top of the Baby Names topic as a service to new parents.

My eldest had a friend called Maddison … my youngest calls her ‘malice’ … she had no idea what it means as she’s three but she adds ‘L’s into everything and it still makes me wonder everytime she says it now!

also, not child related (sort of) but I have a dog called neville and one year on holiday a little girl called him ‘nibble’ Everytime she saw us.. I do infact still call him nibble now

My two thought a man who lived down our street was called Mr Toilet Roll. I have no idea why, as I whilst I’d pass the time of day with him, I didn’t know his name, so they hadn’t misheard it.

It only came to light when they addressed him as such, in chorus, aged about 3 and 4.

cunningartificer · 25/08/2023 20:39

My son came home from nursery to tell me his friend had a new baby brother called Spot. Completely definite about it. We found out he was actually called Mark.

cunningartificer · 25/08/2023 20:41

He also had a friend at nursery whose name he couldn't remember except he said everyone said 'We adore her' So she was obviously very popular. She might have been but she was also called Theodora.

LanaDelRaybans · 25/08/2023 20:48

We spent a few months thinking there was a little boy in our daughters nursery called TinTin, she loved him and talked about him constantly. His name was Jitin 🤣

deeplybaffled · 25/08/2023 20:50

A friend was very confused by her child’s new bff, Fridger.

She turned out to be Bridget!

natura · 25/08/2023 20:56

Not my kid, but my (much younger) cousin had an Auntie Fartses.

Her dad's sister Frances was not as tickled by her new moniker as the rest of us.

I had a reception school mum ask me how 'Carrot' was settling in. I was a little thrown so just answered that he was a bit tired but really enjoying it. On going home and realising I'd just inadvertently renamed my child as a vegetable, I did the sensible gown up thing and ordered a personalised backpack with his name (Kurt) in 3 inch letters.

I'm sorry but this has made me proper giggle - it's the kind of thing I'd do without realising too🤭 🥕

queenofthewild · 25/08/2023 21:25

DS was adamant his friend had a younger sibling called Devil. We never did find out what the child's name was.

Focalpoint · 25/08/2023 21:36

We had Dude (Jude)

newrubylane · 25/08/2023 21:39

Pooey (Huey)! 😆

GeorgeBeckett · 25/08/2023 21:40

The driver of our Playmobil race car is called Gentle Buttons after I suggested Jensen Button might be a nice name.

We had NoFunnel from nursery for two years, before Nathaniel came to a barbeque with us.

My friend's three/ four year old used to call her friend Flannel. He was also a Nathaniel.

Cattenberg · 25/08/2023 21:44

Mr Tilder (Matilda)
Heat (Heath)
Orteek (Audrey)
Molly Pyjamas (never did find out who this was)

But my favourite was Waitress (Beatrice).

When DD was three or four, she met a couple called Mr and Mrs King. She insisted on calling them Mr King and Mrs Queen.
