People your DCs have renamed

My DD, almost 4, met a little boy today at holiday club named 'Feelings'.
She chatted about him all the way home - what she played with Feelings, what Feelings said, etc.
After some confusion I worked out that her new friend's name was in fact FELIX.
Has anyone else had a child rename a friend like this?!

My poor friend nina was 'nee-nor' for ages thanks to my ds
Problem was, everyone started calling the poor woman that!

That's why my husband vetoed the name Nina 😁

My son was always coming home from nursery talking about how he had played with 'Leg'.

His name was Blake.

This might be outing if anyone local to me reads it. Said DCs are all in their twenties now.

When they were in y1/2, the local church went into school once a week and the DCs also went to some clubs held in the church hall.

At that time there was a Deacon called Jo. For several weeks they told us Dick and Joe had been at school!

Took longer than I care to admit that dd2’s new friend was called Ottalie and not Oddly

Tadpolle · 25/08/2023 12:36

Tadaniel = Nathaniel
Zebra = Debra

My youngest went to pre-school with UnderThunder for quite a while before we realised it was Alexander. Not sure how she got to UnderThunder 😂

soundsys · 25/08/2023 12:50

Oh and. Cleote to rhyme with coyote... who is actually Cleo T (to differentiate from the other Cleo in the class)

Findyourneutralspace · 25/08/2023 12:55

DS swore blind there was a kid called Levi Bullseye at his nursery. I never did find out what his real name was.

No renaming of people, but dd added an extra number - fifteen, sixteen, soxteen, seventeen..,

fortunehunting · 25/08/2023 13:08

There was a Dan Lee in my DD's nursery room... turns out it was actually a Stanley.

One of my children was in the same class as a child whose surname was Mortiboy. Or "Naughty Boy", as she told me. He was actually a delightful child.

Ali-panda (Alexander)

I'd forgotten our little friend Yikes
(also Alex)

Whatsthepoint1234 · 25/08/2023 13:24

When ds2 was at nursery he told us the boys he was playing with were bed (Fred) and bin (Finn). He had a speech delay and used to use b for f sounds. It made for some funny conversations!

I went to school with a Lorry.
I was quite a long way through school before I realised he was Laurence, shortened to Laurie.

DH is in his 50s and says he's sure he still meets people who think of the vehicle when he introduces himself Grin If he sees them give a little look he quickly adds "well, Laurence really, but only my Mum uses that!"

VivaciousRadish · 25/08/2023 13:41

My daughter had a new girl join her class called ‘show and tell’

She turned out to be Chantelle

HuntingoftheSnark · 25/08/2023 13:47

DD was at school with a Morning Car (Monica).

Sparkm · 25/08/2023 13:57

My daughter spent a whole term calling a child India instead of Olivia.

JudasPriest · 25/08/2023 14:02

My brother used to be insistent that jammy dodgers were called dodgy badgers. To this day my family still calls them dodgy badgers.

Again my brother used to call beagles (the dog) bagels. When he saw a beagle he used to tell us he’d seen a ‘bagel!’

LadyDanburysHat · 25/08/2023 14:28

Our school nursery teacher was called Mrs Sandshoes by quite a few children. She was in fact Mrs Sanchez.

tedgran · 25/08/2023 14:32

I asked my DD what her friends new baby sister was called, "Fairytits" was the reply! Turned out to be Verity.

Unicorn2022 · 25/08/2023 14:42

At preschool my DD had a friend named Bethlehem. Turned out he was called Benjamin.

BronsonJohnson · 25/08/2023 14:49

Probably outing, but I had a doll called Kelemby, from where I'd misheard "Kimberly" at nursery.
And ds regularly referred to "Bronson Johnson" during the pandemic..

LilacLemur · 25/08/2023 14:52

My son went to nursery with a Fiddley (Finley) and Sam-eo (Samuel) 😂

MargaretThursday · 25/08/2023 14:52

I went to playgroup with an "Instrument"; turned out to be "Vincent".

Ds called his big sister "Urry" for ages. We have absolutely no idea why. He could say her name, which has absolutely nothing in common with it. We weren't always telling her to "hurry up", and it's not even really an expression I use anyway.
