Single @ 33 living with Mum

Hi all, I experienced a major long-term relationship breakdown last year and I’m currently living with my Mum. I really want to move out and regain some of my independence as living here is limiting me and making me feel quite depressed. I see all my friends getting engaged, married, remortgaging etc and I just feel I’m falling by the weyside.

The problem I face is I have enough money to buy a small 1-2 bedroom flat for myself, but with the current interest rates (and cost of living), money would be extremely extremely tight month by month. I have also thought about renting for 12 months, but same situation applies as both rent & mortgages are high. Rental prices in the south east are about £1200+. I can afford it on my salary, but I wouldn’t have much leftover at all.

The other issue I have is I’d like to start a family in the future, so I wonder how sensible it is to buy a flat given my age. I would like to meet someone. It’s hard to do this while living with my mum. I can’t bring them back here and dating is becoming costly.

any thoughts? Feeling very down about this.

Buy a two bed flat, get a lodger in, go online dating. Good luck.

That’s a good idea! Thanks
