Styptic powder. We have a very old doggo who has had mast cell tumours for 6 years or so & has had many surgeries & a whole reconstructed muzzle. He has another tumour on his muzzle that is going rather out of control (obviously we’re under our brilliant vet team) & is back on steroids, antihistamines & tramadol as the tumour is itchy.

He is also a greedy dood (his stomach is all Labrador) so when he has his food or, in this case his meds in a treat, he always wipes his mouth on the wall/floor/blanket/us just so he can lap up every particle & molecule of food.

He’s caught his tumour by rubbing his snozz on the exercise bike seat & caused a bleed this afternoon and the styptic pens in our animal first aid kit have dried up. I’ve smashed the last morsel of pencil to apply (alongside pressure) to stem the bleed, and ordered a bigger tub because he’s bound to do the same again!

It’s also brilliant to stop a quick from bleeding when we clip nails; his brother is adept at sucking his nails in like a cat (which is impossible but somehow he does it) & in 4 years he hasn’t had a nail clip without me chasing after him with a styptic pencil & a mop! Even our vet nurse & groomers have the same problem lol!
