Anyone know why my sons hair grows like this?

I hadn't really taken much notice of it until recently but he has a prominent piece of hair that grows longer than the rest and on one side. His hair line is also higher on the opposite side. Is there a name for it?

Sounds a bit like a cowlick. I imagine genetic.

Yes!! Cow lick!! Thanks everyone!! Such a fantastic term too. It's just like that photo of the boy but you see how that little boys hair grows quite a bit on the right side well my sons hair that side is only a few cms wide, it's like a tiny tail fringe bless him 🤣

Not the best pic I could find but you get the idea. Most of the front of his hair is growing upwards/ backwards and it ends up different lengths at the front. Now he's a strapping teen with grungy hair, it's not so obvious.

Incidentally my hairdresser yesterday told me that the hair on the right half of my head is much thicker than on the left (which I knew) and that it's a very common thing (which I didn't, and which made me feel better!)

I have 2 cowlicks, one in my fringe and one at the back of my head. When I cut my fringe I have to cut one side longer than the other to even it out.

I have hair on my lower head/ neck that grows upwards. I understand it is also common. Known in our family as a DA -duck’s arse.

I am cursed with one and so are both of my children. Although when I was a child I heard it called a turn bristle. So annoying when you want a fringe!

I have this on the right side of the nape of my neck - was very annoying when I had a short bob as the hairline is all messed up. Also have a cows lick on the right side of my crown - sticks up madly every morning!
