American fridge freezer pro/cons

Hi im wanting to replace my fridge freezer and chest freezer. I hate the drawers in freezers. They always cracks and they don't hold much. The chest freezer is awful to dig through.

So I was wanting to get an American fridge freezer. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me pros and cons . Thanks 😊

No cons in my opinion. I have French doors on top and the freezer is on the bottom. It's wonderful.

gogomoto · 16/08/2023 20:42

My freezer is not that big, otherwise its brilliant. Ice and cold water biggest plus

gogomoto · 16/08/2023 20:43

My freezer is similar to an under counter one minus the space for water/ice

I think the issue with the freezer space is that it is generally quite narrow so you wouldn’t be able to fit in a frozen large pizza or something of that size . We looked at this earlier this year and ended up going for a larger upright fridge freezer . We also have an additional under the counter freezer .

This is the one we have except ours doesn't have the water dispenser feature.

I will probably get something like this . I can for it over time.

@Nomoremoves , I meant the separate compartments, not the overall storage space. I’ve found the same in a BiL’s huge place in France.

Don't get a side by side one, the freezer will be too narrow to fit things in. I hated ours like that, everything slid out & you couldn't fit something like a pizza box in it. "French door" ones are a game changer. Double width fridge above, double width freezer below.

I think it will be fine for me from what others have said . The freezer sude holds 185L That's much more than the freezer I have now. And I don't want drawers. So this ticks the boxes.

Oh and we paid an extra £20 to have the doors removed by the delivery men to get it through the front door, then they put them pack on when it was in position. That was by buying through Samsung directly.

We also bought through Samsung directly and didn’t pay extra for that. They just did it themselves after checking with me it was ok.

Cookerhood · 16/08/2023 22:04

It's not the capacity, it's the width, but if it works for you, that's good. I'm guessing the usable width in the freezer will be about 35cm so we couldn't fit a baking tray (I use one to freeze things) or pizza box etc in it. Gets good reviews though.

I read the title as 'American fridge/freezer pronouns' and thought WHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS???
Sorry OP I have no further wisdom than that but I'm sure others will.

I dont want a freezer that has the plastic drawers. They end up cracking /breaking or don't close well the things you put in need to be dead flat or drawer won't close

That does depend on the quality of the freezer. We got a Leibherr freezer when we had our kitchen redone about 12 years ago, the drawers are all absolutely fine still and close with no problems.
Sounds like you're set on something different, OP, but may be useful for someone else to know not all freezer drawers crack up.

I ADORE mine. I call it the fridge of dreams. It's a Samsung one from Currys, fridge on top, freezer on bottom. The freezer is two separate "cupboards" with 3 shelves each, and you can convert one of those to be an extra fridge if you don't need the freezer space. It's a little narrower than a regular one but still huge. Avoid ice/water dispenser, such a waste of space. And yes to checking size against your door - thankfully I had builders doing the kitchen so they removed the door!
