EMDR Therapy for C-PTSD - Any recommendations (face to face preferably)?

Posting here as more traffic than other forums.

Has anyone been successfully treated for C-PTSD via EMDR? More specifically treatment for childhood abuse/neglect.

I would appreciate hearing your stories if it didn't go so well (I'm not a journalist) just feeling quite alone with this just now.

This therapy has been recommended to me. I will shortly be going on the waiting list with the NHS but fear this could be a long wait.

Ideally, I'm looking for face to face treatment as opposed to on-line

I don't want to disclose my location but a lot of places are accessible from where I live (not Scotland or North of the Midlands) and it could be worth travelling for the right therapist.

I had it for cptsd and I think it helped but it didn't 'solve' it. I am much better than I was but don't think I'll ever be 'over' it. I have just learnt to deal with it better and time has helped. Good luck with it

Just find a local one to you. Google will have lots. I just went with my nearest. It's a fairly standardised therapy modality and after having EMDR I think rapport with your therapist (someone you "hit it off with") is better than going with a recommendation based on what worked for someone else in some far-flung part of the country.

Pinguins I have have googled but nothing is coming up locally, hence the call out. There is one but it is on-line only and eye-wateringly expensive.

Having said that I could google outside my immediate area. Also, I think therapists can vary greatly in their understanding of the condition, I need one that is super literate about childhood trauma hence the possibility of a recommendation.

Please pm me if you don't feel comfortable give locations on the thread.

Thanks, Belshade

Ah I see. My thinking here was that there's a lot of weeks of preamble with C-PTSD (rather than PTSD which is often one single event) because you have to go through every single traumatic event in order and that means a lot of background work before you start the actual therapy. Finding somewhere you can reliably access on a regular basis (i.e. nearest to you) is much better than travelling far for "the best one" when they're largely all identical.

For online, I'd recommend Christine Irwin who is near Belfast. She's about £45 an hour and she's BACP registered and is a trauma specialist. She isn't advertising as EMDR but I definitely did some with her: https://harleytherapy.com/therapists/christine-irwin
