Nursery Graduation

My daughter graduates from nursery in a few days. I picked her up a starting school sticker book and a teddy as a little gift and never gave it much thought beyond that. My friend (her son is in the same class) has got balloons ordered, afternoon tea booked, hiring a bouncy castle for the garden, several gifts bought for her son etc. she thinks it’s poor that I’m not making as big a deal of it. Is graduating nursery more of a “thing” than I realised?

Not a thing at all. My daughter has her nursery graduation this week too and all we're doing is going out for a hot chocolate with her nursery bestie and her mum to mark the occasion!

I mean, I didn't get any of that when I graduated from REAL university 😂

It's very OTT. My son's nursery is doing a little thing on Friday but he's still there for another month because I don't get the summer off work! The teachers wanted to do it apparently, I think it's more for them than us or the children.

Way ott but her choice.

My nearly 18 year old had a 'graduation' from nursery. Gown, hat, certificate. Couple of songs and a photo all done by the nursery.

My middle one had a graduation too, again pretty similar with added cakes biscuits and squash. And a personalised bear.
Again all done by the nursery.

That was it. I didn't do anything. Didn't cross my mind to do so

DD finished nursery 12 years ago. They did a picnic in the garden and each child got a photo with a certificate that they are now ready for big school.

I don't think any of us thought about doing anything big, I definitely didn't do any party or bought gifts.

I think it's nice to say good-bye, especially if it is a nursery where they went from babies onwards and DD also went to a totally different primary school than the other children in her group.

Thanks all. The nursery does a really nice ceremony with the little caps and gowns and the kids sing a few songs. Then at the end of this week they have a garden party for the kids. I kind of felt that this was ample to be honest. I don’t remember it being a a huge deal when my older two graduated but also was worrying I was doing my daughter a disservice by not making more of a fuss.
