Do you message friends much when you're away on holiday ?

I don't. I want a break from phone & social media. My friend thinks it's odd not to keep messaging as much as you would at home, if not more when away.

I never contact people while I'm on holiday, that's the whole point of a holiday.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 12/07/2023 20:14

I tell my parents that we’ve arrived and that’s it. Mind you, I don’t have any friends that I message that frequently!

TheNoodlesIncident · 12/07/2023 20:14

I don't message as much, and I don't message friends and family who are away on holiday as much. I reply to them if they message me but I leave it up to them how much chat they want, and when - I don't want to interrupt their break with my irreverent chatter.

I like to send photos and the like when I'm away, so I do WA quite a bit. I'm not on any other social media though.

InterstellarDrifter · 12/07/2023 20:17

I contact my family and might send a couple of pics but not friends usually.

I don't message people when on holiday but I also don't have friends/family that I message much 'just for chat' - it is usually for a purpose (happy birthday/arranging a meet up).

I definitely wouldn't message someone [unless it was urgent] if I knew they were on holiday.

I would reply to a message I received on holiday though but wouldn't get caught up in a long back and forth for no reason [as is my norm anyway].

I like my phone, social media, messaging etc so dial it back a bit but largely carry on as usual!

2chocolateoranges · 13/07/2023 10:15

the Only people I’m in contact with is my mum and our son who usually stays home as he’s in his 20s

i don’t message friends, comment on social media etc.

reluctantbrit · 13/07/2023 10:16

I am not a big chatter anyway and unless it is urgent or it's for the grandparents I don't use SM a lot.

Thanks to time differnence this year I doubt there will be any real life conversations anyway.

SummerSunSoon · 13/07/2023 10:19

I still text my friends to tell them what we’re up to and keep in touch. We’re a close group. If we’re away for a couple of weeks abroad, they look after our dogs and other animals between them all so they send photos and updates.

We often go away with friends as a group with our partners and kids so they’re with us. Then I don’t need to text them. 😅

GCSister · 13/07/2023 10:19

We generally share pictures to our WhatsApp group but often we're away together anyway!

I wouldn't get mad though if friends wanted a break from social media.

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 13/07/2023 10:20

No. Whole point of a holiday is to get away from real life.

CurlewKate · 13/07/2023 10:20

I do. They're still my friends even if I'm on holiday!

Pkhsvd · 13/07/2023 10:20

I try to leave my phone in my room when I’m on holiday then I might send some messages when I’m back in my room but I try to have a break from it. On holiday in the UK I probably message like normal which I’ve never really thought about
