Caught out by COVID in a TV show

I know most people would probably prefer not to do have COVID threads but hopefully the title makes it easy to avoid.

Does it all feel like a lifetime ago to others?

I have been happily binge watching a trashy series while I figure my next thing to watch. I have just reached the series where COVID happens. Characters are distancing and wearing face masks. I have had to ditch the show. I didn't think it would bother me but I found myself needing to shut it out quickly.

We barely had time to recover/process COVID before the war in Ukraine and financial crisis.

We so need a break and a positive change. It seems a long time until the next general election!!

I thought you were saying. You'd taken a sickie pretending you were ill with Covid because you needed time off to go on the Tele and your boss saw your face staring out at them while they were watching the chase or something.😂

Me too 😂😂😂

I've been watching Holby City episodes from 2020 & it's weird seeing characters interacting but clearly socially distancing

It feels like a lifetime ago now when it was the norm

Diddykong · 25/06/2023 20:58

I'm listening to karen slaughter's silent witness at the moment and it's set during covid. It's honestly quite tedious, the inserted references to masks and distancing all the time.

I also had to ditch the greys series where it was all covid

PuttingDownRoots · 25/06/2023 20:59

I find it wierd when you suddenly realise the odd positions are because it was filmed 2020/21 but Covid doesn't exist in that reality.

Choctoffees · 25/06/2023 21:01

That would have been a much more fun thread!

It's strange seeing quiz shows and there are perspex screens between guests - even recent ones such as Only Connect which can't have been filmed too long ago

SunnyEgg · 25/06/2023 21:04

It is weird. I was watching Next in Fashion and the poor background people had masks on

It’s a shame we went straight into the Ukraine war though

Choctoffees · 25/06/2023 21:04

Sorry my posting is slow. My reply was in response to the first posts.

I find seeing face masks particularly annoying.

I was watching (and enjoying) Superstore but had to stop watching when it started with the whole covid and face masks thing!!

It is literally a fictional show! I don't want to watch them go through a pandemic and found it really weird. Just pretend everything is normal!

Choctoffees · 25/06/2023 21:24

I ❤️ Superstore but it really doesn't need a pandemic!

Yes, I watched the last season of superstore and the first pandemic episode made me cry. I was so upset? I work in a large supermarket, had just came off maternity leave end of Feb 2020 and it brought back all the confusion, fear, customer behaviour etc that we'd all just pushed aside and it made me so emotional thinking about it and seeing it played out on the TV.

Choctoffees · 25/06/2023 21:39

@MrsMiddleMother It wasn't a fun time to work. What a difficult return from maternity leave.

There was an episode of New Amsterdam where they did a montage to show them managing Covid and then moving past it. It totally caught me out and I cried and cried. (My mum died at the beginning of the pandemic).

Piscesmumma1978 · 25/06/2023 23:07

Yes, it annoys me. Superstore was one of my favourites and that ruined it.

Greys dragged it out as well.

I want to watch TV to escape the crap of life x

Jaxhog · 25/06/2023 23:08

I've just had Covid. For the first time! No-one cared.

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2023 23:10

I think Superstore at the time with the masks and distancing and disinfecting machine and so on worked, because it was making comedy of a situation we were all going through. It was very good.

But yes, it hits hard now.

Weirdly, I think I’d rather there were things that were set at the time that acknowledge what was going on at the time as part of the historical record, rather than pretending that it never happened.

CrapBucket · 25/06/2023 23:14

I found it wierd watching I Kissed A Boy and Danni Minogue keeping a strange distance from the contestants… that was only filmed last summer allegedly.

WhyDoesItAlways · 25/06/2023 23:15

Another one who also hates the COVID episodes of TV shows, particularly greys and this is us. Just brings back such a shit time.

I also occasionally walk into work and have a real split second moment where I feel like I've forgotten something and then I realise that it's my mask which I haven't needed to wear in the building for about 2 years now Confused

Maddy70 · 25/06/2023 23:46

I don't dwell on things generally. I pay little attention to anything that brings negativity into my world.

COVID feeks sureal now and I have alnost forgotten it. Only have " nice " memories of it.

Vitaminbees · 25/06/2023 23:50

But how good was it watching Glastonbury?!

I remember crying watching a re run of the 2019 one in June 2020 thinking that it wouldn’t happen the same again for a long time.
And only 3 years later it’s like it never happened!
