Anyone had an insect bite like this

Sorry for the gross feet photo!

I was bitten on Saturday on the front of my ankle and the top of my heel. I think they were mosquitos. They’re very itchy but haven’t scratched them. I’ve take antihistamines (piriton) and put cream on them.

Today my foot has come up like this. It’s not hot or particularly red. Just very tight and swollen.

Are we thinking infection or reaction? Or am I just being silly? But concerned about work tomorrow as I can’t fit it in any of my shoes!

The swollen areas are indicative of horse fly bites ... I've had a couple they are just awful and sooo painful

Hearti · 19/06/2023 23:47

i always react too. An antihistamine is usually enough to calm

Be careful with the swelling, I got bitten last year and my arm was swollen to start with, three days later I ended up in hospital on iv antibiotics for cellulitis and the bite area turned black overnight. I’d get seen to asap in the morning to be honest. Don’t be me and leave it much longer if the swelling isn’t going down, I was in hospital for nearly a week.

I get this almost every time a mozzie bites me (wasps and horseflies too)!

I have reactions like this to something - don't know what but I've found that Allevia helps. Our local pharmacist said it's the strongest available over the counter antihistamine.

Yep, every time I get bitten I swell up like that. Takes a day or two and then goes down again. It's not at all pleasant

I've had this before. Looks like you've got cellulitis. I needed antibiotics to sort it.

It's not likely to be cellulitis because the skin isn't red and inflamed.

When I experienced it for the first time (had this 3 times), mine wasn't red, just ballooned and couldn't walk in it. Was sent to A&E and was told it was cellulitis and given antibiotics 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks for the advice. It’s cellulitis, more swollen and hot to the touch. Started ABs, hopefully they’ll kick in soon ☺️
