Oh wise mumsnetters, I’m tagging along with some friends to Costco later this week. I’ve never been before so have no idea what to look out for!

I have a baby so thinking to pick up nappy’s in bulk etc but what bargains or Costco only items do you recommend? What can you get that’s just at Costco?

Oh and get one of the massive sheet celebration cakes. Doesn't have to be anyones birthday, just a random Tuesday will do!

Foil/ cling film
Toilet roll
Kitchen roll
Toilet bleach
Toothpaste
Olive oil
Unsalted nuts
Surf
Cereal
Tuna
Tinned tomatoes
Tinned baked beans

This is basically my shopping list whenever I go, plus ready cooked my meals (chicken enchiladas, chicken quesadillas)

Costco is great value but that doesn't always mean cheapest:

  • they have high quality standards so the comparison would be £/kg vs Sainsbury's or even Waitrose rather than Asda

  • everything is in bulk so the outlay is high

  • on branded stuff they match the market but aren't any cheaper

Burgers
Chicken nuggets (big chunks of breast!)
Prawn wan Tom soup
Frozen packs of teriyaki rice

I buy the huge container of Canadian maple syrup and the huge bag of pancake/waffle mix. My daughter loves just adding water to the mix to make pancakes for our Sunday morning treat.
Frozen chicken kievs are good too.

We do this on Saturdays. I usually add an egg and a splash of milk. Also if I have Greek yogurt to use up or a bit of lemon, grated apple, old banana or squishy pear. Blueberry is a big hit although I prefer them on top. Each week is a bit different and I'm getting pretty good and it! We are coming to the end of our third bag.

Plenty phone reception at the one in Leeds! 5G usually. I was there last week and video called my mum to show her something

@AquaButton My local Morrisons has free customer Wi-Fi??

🤣 You do realise that pancake mix is only egg, milk and flour! So if you're buying that giant bag of pancake mix AND adding an egg & milk anyway, even though it already contains egg, you may as well just buy a big giant bag of flour! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

I know! But then I need to be more precise in the ratios. American pancakes have rising agents and buttermilk in them which is different than regular milk. So even adding what I do it's still a bit easier in the morning. The best part of this one is if it's still a bit dry, add more water, let it bubble and it's ready for the pan. (Bubbles are from the rising agent)

American style pancakes don't just have flour milk and eggs in though.

Their Salmon and smoked haddock fillets are far better quality than you buy in usual supermarkets . I buy large packs and then freeze in portion size .
