Do you have shutters? How much did they cost?

I'd really like shutters for our downstairs, but I have no idea if they're affordable or not! Just for downstairs so 3x 'normal' windows about a metre wide and half room height tall and one 'bay' window - we live in a new ish build in the NW.

So as the title says, do you have shutters? And if you do would you mind telling me how much they cost?

They wont give you total black out either. I have the shutters and have kept curtains in the bedrooms.

I don't have slatted ones - I wanted a more traditional look so mine are solid - and yes, they produce almost blackout apart from very small cracks. No need for curtains or other window coverings.

We shopped around quite a bit and finally decided to go for a smaller company as they were quite a bit cheaper than the bigger places like hillarys. We paid around £1200 for our large bay window. It's alot of money but I am so happy I did it. It totally transformed our lounge. We used a company called ShutterLab, they were recommended to me by someone else.

Oh, good question. Mine are being installed on Monday. I ordered them at the beginning of April. MDF material and 10 year warranty. I have a large bay window, approx 3 meters across.

£1360, including measuring, made to size and fitting.

I can't show a photo yet but I went for full height plantation shutters. They also tilt open to allow light in and can swing out so you can clean the window.

I can't wait to get rid of the vertical blinds which have been up since we moved in last year.

That's a really good price. Can you share the company details? Website especially. I've had a quoyr for £2500 for a bay windows with 5 windows including black out blinds behind the shutters for total black out in the bedroom

Hey, yes of course: https://www.shuttercraft.co.uk

I can't really recommend them though until they've been installed next week, but the fitting was really straightforward and so far they have been good at communicating and sticking to timings.

I paid £1800 for a large bay, they measured and installed them (central London). Thomas Sanderson - they will quote high and you have to negotiate down and down, then when they get to their final 'managers special/ in the area/ sign today/ seasonal discount' price, say you will sign if they knock another 10% off! Never fails.

It's shutter installation day and I came home to a cool living room (cool in the temperature sense) as the shutters have done an excellent job of keeping out the heat from the sun.

Installation took about 3 hours, probably would have been quicker but I have old wonky walls. Now I just need to sort out the others rooms in my house to get them for the windows in the rest of the house.

Love our shutters! Just had these in our bay window.

Paddingtonthebear · 19/06/2023 19:31

Ours were also fitted today and they also required some extra work due to wonky walls! This is one of the bay windows. I agree with previous comments, they do, when open, allow more light in than the previous Venetians. But create more darkness when closed. Very handy to be able to tilt the bottom at street level but keep the top section open to let in light (and stop dog barking at passers by!).

Even our windows are similar - are you sure you're not me in an alternate universe?

(They look great btw)

Well we had to call the fitters back as one of the lower panels upstairs doesn’t seem to sit as well as the others. They will need to order a new one so that’s another 10 week wait 😆
