Gallbladder attacks advice

1000 replies

HeyBwoss · 11/06/2023 13:02

Been having episodes of pain since January but have now had 2 in the past 2 weeks. I thought it was trapped wind (actually the first one I thought was a heart attack, at first) but have seen it may be gallstones. All my pain matches everything I have read. Except for labour, it's the worst pain I've ever had.

Anyway, I'm hoping to see the GP tomorrow, but in the meantime I'm terrified to eat incase something triggers it. Does anyone have any advice on how to manage or anything that stops the attacks? Thanks in advance

Plan of attack for me is overnight in hospital packing me full of antibiotics and painkillers. Then emergency surgery tomorrow unless an even bigger emergency comes in and bumps me off the list.

dudsville · 26/06/2023 17:20

Great news @CleanQueen123 , I've got my fingers crossed for you that you get the surgery, keep us updated how you're doing.

Trollfeet · 26/06/2023 17:33

Good luck @CleanQueen123 , hope the surgery goes well.

I'm please for you both, (although I'm sorry you're having to have emergency surgery) and hoping you'll be feeling better by this time next week at least.

I feel the same with the bloating, feel great in the morning but after eating a small breakfast and small lunch I'm stuffed and uncomfortable. I wish I at least had a date to aim for.

Just thinking, this is after your long 12 hr stint in A&E, you must be exhausted @CleanQueen123 ?

dudsville · 26/06/2023 17:42

I share that wish for a date @HeyBwoss. This is a hard way to live. I've felt this afternoon like i could vomit, don't have to, but could iyswim, whilst trying to eat regularly so that the gb gets to do it's job. I spent the day just feeling vulnerable.

CleanQueen123 · 26/06/2023 17:58

Thanks everyone. I'm shattered. I managed a few minutes of napping earlier but hospitals aren't exactly relaxing are they.

I'm apprehensive because I've never had surgery before but hopefully it all goes smoothly and sorts out my issues for good.

dudsville · 26/06/2023 18:10

I think that's the way to look at it@CleanQueen123 , i think most folks would reasonably wary of surgery, but when it needs to happen suddenly it's kind of longed for. I've never had a surgery, would never chose to, but now it's the thing i most want.

CleanQueen123 · 26/06/2023 18:24

The surgeon seems very confident. It's a very common and low risk procedure. He thinks I'll be back to normal within a fortnight.

dudsville · 26/06/2023 18:29

That's reassuring. And during that 2 week recovery you'll be free from fear, so it's all going to be better soon!

CleanQueen123 · 26/06/2023 18:50

🤞. I doubt I'll be eating a bucket of curry straight out the gate but at least I'll be able to work back towards a balanced diet. I've lost another 2kg since Friday!

HeyBwoss · 26/06/2023 19:15

I hope you get some sleep tonight at least, but hopefully home tomorrow.

@CleanQueen123 i hope you are being prepped for surgery

I’m waiting to have an MRPC and then the nurses seem to think I’ll be discharged. I’m more jaundiced today and my stools are now pale so I imagine there is a bile duct blockage that will need to be removed.

dudsville · 27/06/2023 07:46

@Trollfeet I just had to do a quick google of mrpc, so a scan specifically on the bile duct? I'm shocked they're thinking of discharging you when you're getting MORE jaundiced? You must be feeling awful?

dudsville · 27/06/2023 07:48

When i was discharged they told me admit conforms that would mean i should get back in touch and jaundice was def one of them. I think also blood in stools or in vomit, a temp, i can't fermenter of there was anything else.

HeyBwoss · 27/06/2023 07:50

I can't believe they're going to discharge you. It's like you have to be at deaths door to get any help! Never mind actually preventing it getting that bad in the first place. I'm so sorry you're still not well.

Trollfeet · 27/06/2023 09:52

We’ll see what happens after my scan, that’s booked for 1 today.

dudsville · 27/06/2023 10:24

Keep us updated @Trollfeet . How are you feeling?

How was your night@CleanQueen123 ?

CleanQueen123 · 27/06/2023 10:45

So my update is that I won't be having surgery today. The list is too busy with life or death stuff. New plan is to stay another night and try again tomorrow. If no luck then they'll discharge and book me in for a planned surgery in the next few weeks.

Not a great update but equally I feel a lot better for all the IV stuff so I think I could manage for another few weeks if needed.

HeyBwoss · 27/06/2023 11:43

That's a shame @CleanQueen123 but glad you are feeling better. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

OP posts:
dudsville · 27/06/2023 16:30

That's a shame, but you're on the pathway now, if not tomorrow then you'll soon have a date, more than you had a week or two ago.

CleanQueen123 · 27/06/2023 18:54

Latest update is they think there's a space on the planned surgical list tomorrow afternoon. So fingers crossed for that and I could be home tomorrow or Thursday morning with it sorted.

dudsville · 27/06/2023 19:51

Fingers and toes crossed for you. If it doesn't happen then this already emotional escapade turns into a roller coaster.

HeyBwoss · 27/06/2023 21:00

Hoping for the best for you! Hope you're doing ok too Trollfeet

Trollfeet · 27/06/2023 21:40

Dr hasn’t seen me since my MRCP. I will have my last antibiotic tonight. I’m less jaundiced and managed to eat with lout triggering an attack. I’m hoping the worse is over and I’ll be discharged tomorrow.
