Kenalog (hayfever jab) and HRT together?

I've just been prescribed HRT and I really struggle with hay fever in the summer (year-round allergies as well). I have had the Kenalog injection in the past and it worked wonders. It's the difference between going out and staying in some days.

Has anyone taken these two together? I will check with my doctor but as the injection is only available privately, they don't seem to know much about it.

I will check with the Kenalog clinic as well but wondered if anyone had any experience with this.

Quite aside from HRT, I really wouldn't recommend Kenalog. There is an international consensus statement on allergy which suggests it shouldn't be used. There are alternative treatments which are as effective but are safer.

If your hayfever is that bad, you may merit referral to an allergy specialist for consideration of desensitisation therapy; even if you don't meet the NHS criteria, you could get referred privately.

I used to have the most terrible hayfever ever and, like you, year round allergies. The worst symptom for me was constant sneezing. The life changing medication for me has been Fenlfexatine 180 mg and a strong nasal spray (sorry, can’t remember the name). The sneezing has almost vanished but I do still get slightly itchy eyes at this time of year but nothing like l had before. These are prescription only. I would ask about these at your gp. Much better than injections. Many doctors are reluctant to give these injections anyway because of the risk of side effects.

I'm under an allergy nurse at my local hospital after my first asthma attack in 2020. I'm on a daily tablet of Loratadine for a dust and pollen allergy but I've got Fexofenedine (120mg tablets) somewhere so will try those tonight.

The pollen seems really high atm. My DC have started to sneeze and itch their eyes too.

Have you though? My hay fever and allergies have got much better since I started the peri-menopause period.

I take 4 180mg of fexofenadine a day just to function at this time of year, not getting anywhere near cutting out the symptoms completely. I've tried every type of nasal spray and eye drops, every antihistamine, and had to have oral steroids 3 times in 3 months this year already.

In desperation I've gone for the injection... I'd love to know what's effective.

Get yourself referred to allergy clinic!

that's all well and good but you are the one saying there are other effective measures! we would just love to know what they are. Another 3-4 180mg fexofenadine taker here. Only thing really reliable is prednisolone and they will only do that for a few days.

Just remembered. My prescribed nasal spray is called Avamys. Also Fexofenadine 180 mg.
